I thought I had gotten this all fixed, but today my AVG caught a bunch of Trojan horse viruses and popups were coming up in mozilla.

Here is my HJT log:

PLease help me!!
Hello Sandra, Welcome to TomCoyote forum. If you still need help, please follow these instructions.

1) You are running both Symantec and AVG. One of the first things that happens is false positives, conflicts will always occur with two antivirus programs running at once. Start by uninstalling one, or turning it completely off so it can not run. You will continue to have these issues until you do this.

2) Your log appears clean, but let's do a check to make sure, a good cleaning is always in order.
I see Spybot, but do you have version 1.04 and are you also running Ad-aware, use the following information to be sure of this. You would be better served if you were to use the most recent versions of Ad-aware and Spybot as they can get to places HJT cannot. Please use this link: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php to download, update, configure and run these two "big guns" and allow them to remove anything bad they locate. Both programs provide backups for your safety. ***note: please do not activate Spybot TeaTimer until your computer is clean. Run Spybot first and reboot between the scans. It is good to run both programs at least twice, and run the "Full System Scan".

3) Ewido trojan scanner: http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Please download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
  1. When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  2. When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK. We will fix this in a moment.
  3. From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
  4. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful"), click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run, so time to go get a drink and a snack….
  5. If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
  6. When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to this thread.

  7. 4) Download and run: http://www.ccleaner.com/ undate and run with the default setting and allow it to remove what it locates.

    5) You are running HJT.exe from a .zip file in a temporary directory. If we need them, backups will be logs as well as logs. We need HJT.exe to run from a permanent folder. Use the information in the following link to fix this:
    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial94.html
Note: This video tutorial requires Macromedia Flash to play.
    http://www.spywareaid.com/index.php?file=svideo&id=1

    6) Post a new HJT log along with the scan information from Ewido and any feedback you think I should have.

    Thanks…pskelley

I've had quite a bit of adware lately, but I think these programs helped get rid of a lot of it.

Thanks for your help, Sandra
Hi Sandra, Sorry to not get back to you yesterday, the TomCoyote website had some issues and it occured just after you posted to you your thread.
There is still not a lot going on in your log. You can see Ewido did pick up a couple of cookies and some spyware. You mentioned viruses and adware. How did your updates scans (Spybot/Ad-aware do, did they locate any adware/spyware?)
It is also very possible you were getting false readings because of the multiple antivirus programs, this is something that often happens when two are run like that.

Here is a nice, effective cleaning utility if you do not have one. You can download, update and use the default settings until you learn more about how to clean with it. It also has a nice free forum if you have questions. IF you use the registry cleaner, make sure you always use the backup feature and you will be prompted to do this by default. http://www.ccleaner.com/

The following two items, review the link under them and you can save some resources by using http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\jusched.exe
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-3552.html

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WinampAgent] "C:\Program Files\Winamp\Winampa.exe"
http://castlecops.com/startuplist-4259.html

After a day or so, once you are sure Spybot/Ad-aware did not remove anything you need (has not in six years on my computers) empty the Recovery/Quarantine folders within the software. Not a bad idea to clean out Symantec quarantine also.
I also suggest you purge your System Restore files to make sure you do not have anything lurking in your backup. Here are the instructions for doing this.
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen…src=sec_doc_nam

Here is some great information from Tony Klein, Texruss, ChrisRLG and Grinler to help you stay clean and safe online:
http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=3051
http://russelltexas.com/malware/allclear.htm
http://forum.malwareremoval.com/viewtopic.php?t=14
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topict2520.html

My last suggestion is that you download any available updates for Symantec and run a complete system scan.

Good luck and safe surfing…Phil

Thanks…pskelley
