Hello,

Running into a problem with a laptop I'm using. This thing was pretty infected with viruses. Ran SYSCLEAN and cleaned out a bunch of viruses, have also ran Spybot and Ad-Aware. SYSCLEAN could not get rid of Trojan_Agent.el. After cleaning everything out, installed AVG Free Edition. AVG is catching a Trojan backdoor.agent.ba. Here is my HIJACKTHIS log, please help. Thanks in advance and Happy New Year.

Welcome to the forum.

Looks like you got most of it.

Please move HJT into its own permanent folder so backups can be made.
Close all programs down, leaving only HijackThis running.

Place a check against the following items:

HowToShowHiddenFiles - enable this

Delete these files:

C:\WINDOWS\dqdml.dll
C:\WINDOWS\System32\hlppd.dll

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Do this for me also:

Click here http://home.comcast.net/~rand1038/vbscript/ServiceFilter.zip to download ServiceFilter, a little script by rand1038 that reveals potential unauthorised running services in your system. Download, unzip and double-click ServiceFilter.vbs (you may need to enable your antivirus program to run the file). This script will create a text file named Post_This.txt in the same folder as the script itself has been saved - copy and paste the contents of Post_This.txt in your next reply here.

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and lets see how we did, MrC
Hi Mr. Charlie,

Thanks for the response. I've performed the steps you indicated in your post, my logs are below. I ran into several problems. C:\WINDOWS\dqdml.dll did not exist on my computer. I was not able to delete C:\WINDOWS\System32\hlppd.dll, it returned an "Access is Denied" error. I tried deleting in Safe Mode as well, no luck. Also, when I boot up the computer, AVG is still detecting the Trojan horse Backdoor.Agent.BA virus. What else should I do?

Thanks again for all of your help.

Best regards,
golfbum

Do this for me:

Please do the following:

Download FxAgentB.exe from HERE and save it to your desktop. After downloading, double-click the FxAgentB file to run it and the program will scan your entire hard drive - this may take a while. When it is done, it will generate a log file called FxAgentB.log - save that information as you will need to paste it here later. Reboot when done.

Next click HERE to download CWShredder by Merijn Bellekom and run it, hit 'fix' as opposed to 'scan only'. Reboot when done.

Then click HERE to download Ad-Aware SE and install. Before scanning click on "check for updates now" to make sure you have the latest reference file. Click "Start", select "Perform Full System scan" and "Next" to start the scan. When the scan is finished, the screen will tell you if anything has been found, click "Next". The bad files will be listed, right click the pane and click "Select all objects" - this will put a check mark in the box at the side, click "Next" again and click "OK" at the prompt "# objects will be removed. Continue?".

Reboot when done, rescan with HijackThis and post a new log here, together with the FxAgentB log. MrC
Hi Mr. Charlie,

Performed all of the steps you listed, but my browser is still being hijacked to "about:blank" and AVG is still displaying Trojan horse Backdoor virus. Weird thing is, FXAgent did not detect any Backdoor viruses. Any other ideas? Thanks again for all of your help. Here are the logs:

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Reboot and post a fresh HJT log and lets see how we did, MrC

———————————————————————————-

Question for you, what programs did you run before you posted your first HJT log - I'm just curious - I'll let you know why later - Thanks, MrC
Hi Mr. Charlie,

OK, I think we finally got the last of it. Latest HijackThis log looks pretty clean, I've included it below.

Prior to running my first HijackThis scan, I booted the computer in Safe Mode and ran Sysclean with the latest pattern file, updated and ran Ad-Aware and Spybot as well. Why do you ask?

Thanks again for all of your help.

Best regards,
golfbum

Well Done!!!!

The reason I asked is that you showed remnants of a nasty CoolWebSearch infection in the first log that you posted. This means you ran a program the "nailed" it.
Usually it's about a 13 step procedure you get rid of, Sysclean with the latest pattern file is what nailed it.
Here's what was was in your first log that caught my eye:
