Since my connectivity is out, I am not at the devil laptop now. This is the machine info I have: HP Pentium M 1.6 ghz 480 MB Ram WinXP Home V. 2002 SP1 This is what happens. 1. Start-Network-Show connections…Enable the connection. The tray Icon shows a connection with excellent signal strength. I am unable to get the status screen to stay up, but what little I can see after opening it over and over is that it is in fact disconnected. I cannot select anything on the status window. It closes too quickly. The left hand pane of the network connections window says that my IP address is 0.0.0.0, as is my Subnet. So, command prompt, and ipconfig. I find that my adapter is in a "media disconnected" state. I have (as far as I can tell) disabled all firewalls. the next, and possibly related issue… 2. Trojans!! At least 2. Since they install in the registry, could they have corrupted the winsock? (I have not run a fix on winsock yet, but I will soon. After I get rid of these dayam TROJANS!!) 3. The last oddball thing is I can't use an image as my desktop wallpaper. Under display properties, the area to select an image is completely grayed out. I have downloaded HJT to a jumpdrive, I will run it, and bring the info back to post. Any suggestions in the meantime are much appreciated!

hi, both my friend and myself had this problem. here is the tool that worked for us:

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ODV5DDLL

it's a winsock fix. Basically, double click it, click fix, then yes

it'll do it's buisness, hopefully fixing your ''online capabilities''.

post back if it works, thanks.

bizarrebob :D
Thanks bizarrebob, Sure. It's just fine to post helpful ideas. That's what we're all here for…….to learn from each other. However, it's almost always better to post the original source, so people can read up on it and be able to go get it again if they need to. Plus the source site may have additional related information that the person can benefit from. Besides, that download host site you linked looked kinda "spammie", but what do I know? Best Regards
^^^ i agree, site doesn't look great. But the actual tool has worked fine three times (myself twice and my friends PC). I think the site just hosts the file, but it's from somewhere else. :D
