hard drive died

dough, im going nutz w/ this. everything appers to check out. i did the bios stuff as well. hp is absolutely no help at all. still no sound

I suppose you've tried plugging your speakers into the other "speaker - out" plug at the back of your tower?

What sound device did Everest 2.20 identify?

You'll find information about your Sound Card and Device controller in Everest 2.20 under:
Multi Media - PCI - PNP Audio
Devices - PCI Devices

Re-install your MotherBoard Chipset Drivers. Just load them over the top of whatever you currently have, without need to "uninstall - reinstall." Use the same HP link I posted above.

Run your System File Checker.
Start - Run - (type)sfc /scannow

if sfc does identify any missing or corrupt operating system files, it will call for the Windows installatin CD.
Have your Office Computer Guy bring you the Windows CD if SFC calls for it.
If the Office Computer Guy is "not around" you can exit out of SFC and wait till he brings the disk.

dough, i still cant get sound. and i cant get my palm to hotsynch either. any ideas. i downloaded latest palm software from their site and i still cant get it to sync via usb like i always have done. thoughts please thx john
