Greetings - Initially, I had "show hiden files" selected, but didn't have "Hide protected operationg system files unchecked" so I unchecked it. Additionally, I unchecked "Hide extensions for known file types. Then went to Windows Explorer and searched for the file in C:\Program Files\ however there was only a folder option called "Common Files" and not \Common\. So I then used Windows search, selected the C drive, checked search system folders, hidden files and folders and search subfolders, then entered the folder name in the first box. Both resulted in no folder. However the first time you asked me to search for the file (when we did the look.bat and reg edit file) it was there and I deleted it. It was only after then that Trends popped up with the Trojan warning of the two quarantined files. Since then however, that particular folder (or anything like it that I can tell) has not reappeared. Now, there was a folder in the C:\C5012b2ae6f61866702fb38a6414. And it contains two files (mrt.exe & mrtsub.exe. Both apart of the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool & Update Stub from Microsoft dated 7/6/2006, version 1.18.1507.0. Not sure if that is of any help…..
DaCat It looks like Trend Caught it. Open your TrendMicro program and dump the quarantine files. Re run Hijackthis and let me see one More Hijackthis log please thanks bamajim
Here you go…..

Just have one question please

This line O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Sometimes shows up because you have placed viewing restrictions on the Internet like parental control for minors. Other times it's due to an infection. Have you placed restrictions on IE viewing?

And thanks for your patience by the way

bamajim
No I haven't set any restrictions. However, I was fooling around with Trends security and it blocks most if not all cookies from any websites I visit unless I add it to the "exceptions" list.
Oh, and let me say again, I appreciate your help….. A question poped up……I was going to defrag my c drive. In looking at my PC, I noticed system restore was still on. Should I turn it off to finish clearning the infection? Is that why those files are still attached to the system restore files? (note, I have not done any system restore because I know those files are there and will only re-infect my laptop).
DaCat

Your Log is Clean from malware :)
I appreciate your patience in working through this.

Now that your log is clean

There are some final notes:
Disable and Enable System Restore. This will get rid of the system restore infected filesNow that your system is clean, lets create a clean System Restore point
the instructions are here

Thanks bamajim
Thx for all your help. I'm going to have to work on how to configure any firewall to work correctly with Tivo. Otherwise…everything seems to work great now. I'll be making a donation. Thx again for all of your help. "Cat"
