Download Killbox from here:

Killbox.zip © Option^Explicit

Unzip it, but don't run it yet.

CLOSE ALL WINDOWS (even this one) AND PROGRAMS!!!!

Run Hijack This!
Click "Do a systen scan only".
Then "check" the box to the left of these item(s):

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar,LinksFolderName =

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=userinit.exe

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {327C2873-E90D-4c37-AA9D-10AC9BABA46C} - (no file)

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

Then click "Fix checked" & close Hijack This!

Now, run Killbox.

In Killbox select "Delete on Reboot".

Paste the next line into the "Full Path of File to Delete" text box.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\logonui.dll

Click the red dot with the white X in it, in the upper right of Killbox, then click "Yes", and "Yes" again.

When the machine reboots, "copy/paste" a new HijackThis! log file into this thread.

Delete all of the following noted (in red) file(s)/FOLDER(s) you can find:

c:\program files\common files\wuor <— FOLDER

Some malware files may be "hidden".
Be sure to show hidden files when looking for these file(s) and/or folder(s).
:)
Had one problem executing these instructions. When I ran killbox it would not delete the logonui.dll file. I got an error message that said " PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been removed by External Process". Here is my new Hijack log.

So thats it. My comp should be working fine now? Cause I don't think it is. Like for example I have the quick launch toolbar turned on and whenever I restart the computer it shuts it off and when i turn it back on all of the icons are mixed up. I know it doesn't sound major but why is it still doing that? And also when I look in the C:\WINDOWS\System32 folder there is a logonui.dll file. Should I be deleting that. It says it was created in March of 2003 and modified in August of 2004. Is that a normal file?
Download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your
desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop
and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition
    files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "
    Update now
    " link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a
progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of
the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then
    select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

Reboot in "safe" mode.

Then please run Ewido, click on the Scanner run a full scan and let it clean everything it finds. Save the logfile from the scan.

Boot in normal mode.

All the things removed look pretty benign to me.

I don't know why your quick launch toolbar acts the way it does.

I did find out where the shortcuts are stored:

C:\Documents and Settings\[insert user profile here]\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Perhaps if you started a thread in the "Other Computer Problems" area here, you could find a solution.

It sure doesn't appear to be "malware" related.

I'm sorry I can't be any more help than that.
:(
Actually it looks as though everything is working fine now. I sure do apriciate your help as I would have been lost without you. Thank you so much for everything. If there are anymore problems I'll let you know. Thanks again
