Hi there ..Thankyou very much for replying and looking at my log file..here is what Regscan came up with. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 ; Regscan.vbs Version: 1.2 by rand1038 ; 26/08/2005 20:33:53 ; Search Term(s) Used: "sstqr.dll" ; 5 matches were found. ; The search took 43 seconds. These two keys:

Make that file look like part of this software:

A. & M. NEUBER GBR, SECURITY TASK MANAGER

Does that look like anything familair to you?

Have you ever had that software installed, or is it possible (if the PC is "used") that a previous user had that software installed?

Please navigate to this file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqr.dll

Put your cursor on it, and let me know all that it says in the "bubble" that pops up.
(File date/time, Company, File version)
:)
C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqr.dll …. Date Created 20/08/2005 17:43 Size 504kb The Security Task Manager program I installed only on Thursday night 25/08/2005 when I saw another thread on here suggesting to try it to show what items could be running on my PC…the sstqr came at the top of the list too !! Unfortunatley I had the Winfixer and pop ups appearing before I installed it :( Should I unistall it and make sure those keys in the reg are deleted and also delete the sstqr.dll file ? Thanks again !
Let's try one thing first.

Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

http://www.atribune.org/downloads/l2mfix.exe

http://www.downloads.subratam.org/l2mfix.exe

Save the file to your desktop and l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop.

l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing .

This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, Notepad will open with a log. Copy/paste the contents of that log into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!
If you can understand what all this mean then your a Genius :) L2MFIX find log 1.04 These are the registry keys present ********************************************************************************** Winlogon/notify: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify] [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\AtiExtEvent] "DLLName"="Ati2evxx.dll" "Asynchronous"=dword:00000000 "Impersonate"=dword:00000001 "Lock"="AtiLockEvent" "Logoff"="AtiLogoffEvent" "Logon"="AtiLogonEvent" "Disconnect"="AtiDisConnectEvent" "Reconnect"="AtiReConnectEvent" "Safe"=dword:00000000 "Shutdown"="AtiShutdownEvent" "StartScreenSaver"="AtiStartScreenSaverEvent" "StartShell"="AtiStartShellEvent" "Startup"="AtiStartupEvent" "StopScreenSaver"="AtiStopScreenSaverEvent" "Unlock"="AtiUnLockEvent" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\crypt32chain] "Asynchronous"=dword:00000000 "Impersonate"=dword:00000000 "DllName"=hex(2):63,00,72,00,79,00,70,00,74,00,33,00,32,00,2e,00,64,00,6c,00,\ 6c,00,00,00 "Logoff"="ChainWlxLogoffEvent" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\cryptnet] "Asynchronous"=dword:00000000 "Impersonate"=dword:00000000 "DllName"=hex(2):63,00,72,00,79,00,70,00,74,00,6e,00,65,00,74,00,2e,00,64,00,\ 6c,00,6c,00,00,00 "Logoff"="CryptnetWlxLogoffEvent" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\cscdll] "DLLName"="cscdll.dll" "Logon"="WinlogonLogonEvent" "Logoff"="WinlogonLogoffEvent" "ScreenSaver"="WinlogonScreenSaverEvent" "Startup"="WinlogonStartupEvent" "Shutdown"="WinlogonShutdownEvent" "StartShell"="WinlogonStartShellEvent" "Impersonate"=dword:00000000 "Asynchronous"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\ScCertProp] "DLLName"="wlnotify.dll" "Logon"="SCardStartCertProp" "Logoff"="SCardStopCertProp" "Lock"="SCardSuspendCertProp" "Unlock"="SCardResumeCertProp" "Enabled"=dword:00000001 "Impersonate"=dword:00000001 "Asynchronous"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\Schedule] "Asynchronous"=dword:00000000 "DllName"=hex(2):77,00,6c,00,6e,00,6f,00,74,00,69,00,66,00,79,00,2e,00,64,00,\ 6c,00,6c,00,00,00 "Impersonate"=dword:00000000 "StartShell"="SchedStartShell" "Logoff"="SchedEventLogOff" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\sclgntfy] "Logoff"="WLEventLogoff" "Impersonate"=dword:00000000 "Asynchronous"=dword:00000001 "DllName"=hex(2):73,00,63,00,6c,00,67,00,6e,00,74,00,66,00,79,00,2e,00,64,00,\ 6c,00,6c,00,00,00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\SensLogn] "DLLName"="WlNotify.dll" "Lock"="SensLockEvent" "Logon"="SensLogonEvent" "Logoff"="SensLogoffEvent" "Safe"=dword:00000001 "MaxWait"=dword:00000258 "StartScreenSaver"="SensStartScreenSaverEvent" "StopScreenSaver"="SensStopScreenSaverEvent" "Startup"="SensStartupEvent" "Shutdown"="SensShutdownEvent" "StartShell"="SensStartShellEvent" "PostShell"="SensPostShellEvent" "Disconnect"="SensDisconnectEvent" "Reconnect"="SensReconnectEvent" "Unlock"="SensUnlockEvent" "Impersonate"=dword:00000001 "Asynchronous"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\sstqr] "Asynchronous"=dword:00000001 "DllName"="C:\\WINDOWS\\system32\\sstqr.dll" "Impersonate"=dword:00000000 "Startup"="SysLogon" "Logoff"="SysLogoff" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\termsrv] "Asynchronous"=dword:00000000 "DllName"=hex(2):77,00,6c,00,6e,00,6f,00,74,00,69,00,66,00,79,00,2e,00,64,00,\ 6c,00,6c,00,00,00 "Impersonate"=dword:00000000 "Logoff"="TSEventLogoff" "Logon"="TSEventLogon" "PostShell"="TSEventPostShell" "Shutdown"="TSEventShutdown" "StartShell"="TSEventStartShell" "Startup"="TSEventStartup" "MaxWait"=dword:00000258 "Reconnect"="TSEventReconnect" "Disconnect"="TSEventDisconnect" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\wlballoon] "DLLName"="wlnotify.dll" "Logon"="RegisterTicketExpiredNotificationEvent" "Logoff"="UnregisterTicketExpiredNotificationEvent" "Impersonate"=dword:00000001 "Asynchronous"=dword:00000001 RegDACL 5.1 - Permissions Manager for Registry keys for Windows NT 4 and above Copyright © 1999-2001 Frank Heyne Software (http://www.heysoft.de) This program is Freeware, use it on your own risk! Please uninstall "Security Task Manager", then reboot.

Make a new Hijack This! log file and post in in here.

Also run the Regscan once more, search for the same thing as before, and post the results.
:)

If you can understand what all this mean then your a Genius

Nope.

I just have some experience in this area, and have a pretty good idea of what to look for.

If this is what I think it is, I just helped someone get the same infection off their machine last week.
I notice that "meinstaller.exe" in my Hijack file is this anything that could be a problem ?

Thankyou

Download/install APM

Run APM

Click on each item in the upper window

Then look in the lower window. Check to see which processes are using sstqr.dll

Post back letting me know which ones are using that DLL.
3 entries as follows…. 532 - c:\windows\system32\winlogon.exe 1736 - c:\windows\explorer 2476 - c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe
This infection has a "wrinkle" (or two) in it that wasn't in the other infection I worked, on.

Run APM again.

In the upper window on c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe to highlight it.

In the lower window on C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqr.dll to highlight it.

In the lower window, then on C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqr.dll and choose Unload DLL.

If any of these appear in the lower window:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqtss.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqtss.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqtss.bak1

them to highlight them, then on them and choose Unload DLL.

Close APM.

Reboot.

Startup Internet Explorer

Run APM again.

In the upper window on c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe to highlight it.

See if any of these appear in the lower window.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqr.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqtss.ini
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqtss.bak2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rqtss.bak1

Post back and let me know.
I unloaded as instucted and after re booting the .. C:\WINDOWS\system32\sstqr.dll …appeared again in the bottom window of APM….none of the other items that you said may appear, appeared after unloading or rebooting.
OK, Steve.

Because this infection has some new "wrinkles" in it, I'm going to ask someone who helped me with a similar infection for advice.

I will post again ASAP.

If you want to look at the other thread with a very similar infection, just click me.

I'd rather wait a while and be "sure", than have you do something that might damage your machine.
