Hi. I have a problem with the "open with" command when i right-click a .jpg, .mp3, etc. When i mouse-over "open with" i get two choices-a pre-determined list of programs AND the "choose programs" command. Normally, when i choose "choose programs", i am offered the chance to choose from a list of programs. INSTEAD i get the warning " this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel". What i don't understand is, these files do have programs associated with them. Why can't i choose a different program other than the "predetermined" programs? I am running XP PRO/SP2.
Hi If you go to Start/Settings/Control Panel/Folder Options and click on the "file types" tab you can choose the programme you wish to use. To open say, a jpg file, if the programme is not listed then click on "others" and select the programme you want. If this is not the solution you are seeking please post back Regards paws
Sorry, that is not helping me. When i go to a jpeg file, for example, and i right-click the file, i have the "open with" option. I mouse-over "open with", and i can choose from Paint, Picture Manager, and Paintshop OR choose program. I choose "choose program", and i get the warning mentioned above. I used to be able to "choose programs", but for some reason no longer able to do so(unless i go by your suggestion). So, any ideas?
Hi, The work around is as described in my previous post. However if you think that one or more of your Windows system files are either corrupt or missing then you can check this and replace protected files by going to: Start/Run and in the box which follows copy this: [sfc /scannow] don't include the brackets, and note the space between c and / is vital paste it in, then click OK Be ready with your Windows XP disc as you may be asked for it. Hope one of the above helps Regards paws
