Hi,

I've been noticing that my google and yahoo searches are slowing to a crawl. Also when i try to log in to places like tomcoyote it takes a long time to get from the user name box to the password box. And i think i have spyware or something holding these up.After installing and running spydoctor it has found alot of spyware which have been delt with and i am also running bitdefender. After running these programs i have created a log file which is below.

Here's my hijackthis log. Help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hello oozzi, :D

Welcome to Tom Coyote, sorry about the delay but to say we are overwhelmed with logs would be an understatement.

DO THIS FIRST
Your HIJACKTHIS program is current, but it is very important that it resides in its own folder.
We will use Hijackthis (HJT) to make changes to your system and HJT will make backups of those changes,
If HJT is not in its own folder, those backups could be lost.

Easy to fix,
* just go to My Computer > YOUR C:\ DRIVE and create a new folder and name it Hijackthis.
* Now scroll to where you have HJT currently, right click on the HJT icon and select CUT .
* Now open the new folder you just created and right click within that folder and select PASTE .
* Now HJT should reside in C:\Hijackthis\Hijackthis.exe

Please do not proceed until you move HJT to it's own folder.

* Click on My Computer
* Then on your C: Drive
* Then to Tools/ Folder Options/ View
* Choose the radio button to Show Hidden Files and Folders
* Take the checkmark out of Hide Extensions for Known File Types
* Then Apply/ OK

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check this item and click on Fix Checked

O2 - BHO: CDLPObj Object - {BE2ED590-CA49-46B5-8CCE-244FB2E0D1AA} - C:\WINDOWS\DLP.dll

Download ewido anti-spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded ewido anti-spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run ewido and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close ewido anti-spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  • Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
    IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Lauch ewido-anti-spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • ewido will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
    Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close ewido and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the ewido report scan.

Still in Safemode, look for and delete this file

C:\WINDOWS\DLP.dll

Reboot normally and lets run a system cleaner to clean out all the cobwebs.

Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
Tutorial for CCleaner

Post back with the Ewido Report and a New HJT Log.

oozzi,

Ewido just showed a bunch of Cookies, nothing to be alarmed about.

Do you know if you set this entry ?? I am sure its ok
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe

Lets make sure this is gone. C:\WINDOWS\DLP.dll

Download Pocket Killbox to your desktop, unzip it to a folder that you can find

* Highlight the file with the complete path in the quote and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.

C:\WINDOWS\DLP.dll

* Open Pocket Killbox
* Go to File > Paste from clipboard
* Set it to Delete on Reboot
* Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
* If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
* Make sure Single File is selected
* Click on the Red circle with the white X
* It will ask you to confirm the deletion...Say yes
* It will ask you to reboot, say yes

Lets run both these free online virus scanners, Housecall will clean files, Panda wont , but I need to see the logs please.

Panda Active Scan
Trendmicro Housecall

Lets run the trial of Spysweeper, it is a good program for finding something that may be hidden. Make sure you follow my instructions and go to the bottom of the page and download and install the Free 4.5 Trial NOT THE FREE ONLINE SCAN

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here

Scroll to the bottom of the page and be sure to download and install the Free 4.5 Trial and not t the free online scan.

Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C.
Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.
When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

Ken

Do you know if you set this entry ?? I am sure its ok
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe

Not sure what you mean but im not aware of anything done with it???

After downloading pocket killbox i pasted the path in and altered the settings and then clicked on the white circle but after confirming that i would like to reboot the following message came up:

[/b]Pending file rename operations registry data has benn removed by external process.

I run both virus scanners and both come back with nothing i also run spy sweeper and the log is below along with hjt log.

oozzi,

Still nothing bad on your log, and Spysweeper didn't turn up anything that could be hidden. You should uninstall Spysweeper as it is a great program but somewhat of a resourse hog.

Have you noticed any difference after running the scans??

Lets try this...

* Go to My Computer/ C: Drive/ Documents and Settings/ Every User on this Computer /Local Settings and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder and the Temporary Internet Files Folder <--Just the contents, not the folder itself.
* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Temp and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder <-- But not the temp folder itself.
* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Prefetch and remove all the contents of the Prefetch Folder. <--But not the Prefetch folder itself.

* Click Start>Run
* Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
* Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
* This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.
You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

* Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL> PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE> REARRANGE ITEMS ON YOUR HARD DISK TO MAKE PROGRAMS RUN FASTER
This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.

Let me know if any of this helps.

Ken :D

Hey oozzi,

Glad things are well. :thumbup:

Here are some free programs and tips for keeping your system up to date, and to help keep all the riff raff out of your system.

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your
system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* ClickProperties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember, You will have to be in Catagory View to see this

Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
Tutorial for CCleaner

* Open INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
* When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Now Empty your Recycle Bin

* Make sure that your ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE is up to date and run a full scan at least once aweek.

* Here are Free Anti-Virus Programs if you need one
AVG Free Edition
AntVir Personal Edition

* Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.

* Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

* Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and
give you the option to deny the change.

* IE- Spyad IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents downloads and (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

* Firefox Browser
It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both. When it asks you if you want it to be your default browser, say NO and take the checkmark out of the box to ask you again. After you use this for awhile, you will want to make it your default.

* Thunderbird Mail There companion mail program was highly favored in PCWorld Magazine, this has a good spam filter and is more secure than Outlook Express.

* Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.

* WINDOWS UPDATES - Enable Automatic Updates
Right click on MY COMPUTER/Click on PROPERTIES/ AUTOMATIC UPDATES and put a mark in the radio button
DOWNLOAD UPDATES FOR ME BUT LET ME CHOOSE WHEN TO INSTALL THEM.

Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote, I am glad I was able to help you
