Hello everybody,

This is the first time I post a log file on this forum. I have problems with my computer. Every time I start it, I can go online for a few minutes (seconds). Then it slows down and I cannot go online anymore.

After using SpyBot, AdAware, Microsoft Anti Spyware, other programs and a good antivirus, it still doesn't work. I downloaded the latest HijackThis program. Here is the log. Can anyone please help me analyze this ?

Thank you very much.

Hello tristof and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

You appear to have a few worms/trojans on your computer. Please run the following scans to remove them.

Download the free trojan scanner A2 Squared, update and run a scan with it. Fix anything found then reboot when completed.

Download and run Stinger
  • Download Stinger and save it to your desktop.
  • Reboot into safe mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter').
  • Double-click on s-t-i-n-g-e-r.exe to open the tool.
  • Choose your entire hard drive to scan.
  • Choose Scan Now.
  • Stinger will fix anything that it finds.

Run at least two of the following online virus scans making sure to reboot in between each one. Allow them to fix anything they find.You need to use Internet Explorer or Netscape browsers.
Bitdefender
Pandasoftware
Trend Micro << Click Auto Clean
Symantec Security Check << click scan for viruses
RAV Online Virus Scanner << Enter your e-mail address and click on To continue without subscribing
McAfee
Write down anything that can not be fixed. Include the file name and the path to the file.

Scan with HijackThis and post the new log as a reply to this thread. Include anything that can not be fixed by the online scans.
Dear Alan,

Thank you very much for your help. Your forum is a very big help :D

I followed exactely what you said. All the scans took quite a lot of time but I think it finally worked. Here is what I did :

1. Downloaded A-squared, update it and performed the scan. Nothing was found…

2. Reboot in safe mode and ran Stinger.exe
It found the file C:\WINDOWS\system32\.pif (W32/Sdbot.worm, ftp virus)
and deleted it

3. After rebooting, I used the online scan BitDefender. Here is the result
C:\dl.com -> Infected with: Trojan.LowZones.D
=> Deleted
C:\WINDOWS\4.html -> Infected with: HTML.MediaTickets.A
=> Disinfection failed => Deleted
C:\WINDOWS\ss.exe -> Infected with: Trojan.LowZones.D
=> Deleted
C:\WINDOWS\system32\crssrs.exe -> Infected with: Backdoor.RBot.8E442851
=> Disinfection failed
=> Delete failed !!!!!!!!!!!
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ncrvs.exe -> Infected with: Backdoor.RBot.6B98FE24
=> Disinfection failed
=> Delete failed !!!!!!!!!!!

4. After rebooting, I ran Pandasoftware online scan
It scanned for a very long time. Unfortunately, I don't have the results of this scan (I accidentally puched on the button and reset the computer before I had time to save or even see the log…)

5. After rebooting, I ran the online scan Symantec but nothing was found.

6. After rebooting, I rescanned C:\WINDOWS\system32\ with BitDefender which this time didn't find anything :D So apparently, it's gone. I checked in the registry and the crssrs.exe is gone. However, ncrvs.exe (DCASS SUBLOAD) is still running in the services. Moreovern there is a weird program running now: C:\Windows\System32\MV2.exe

7. I finally ran HijackThis again. I posted the log below. Could you tell me if everything is gone? Last question: I only use the Microsoft Windows firewall. Can I install ZoneAlarm now (or another one)?

Thank you again…

Christophe

I would highly recommend downloading the ZoneAlarm Firewall. It will help protect the computer much better than the built in Windows Firewall. Be sure to shutdown the Windows Firewall once ZoneAlarm is installed as having two firewalls running may cause conflicts.

Step 1
I couldn't find much information on this file. Right click on the file and choose 'properties', than on the 'version' tab note what the "Company" and "Version" are.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\MV2.exe

If you still are unsure what this file is, please submit it to the following links for a scan.
http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
http://virusscan.jotti.org/

We would like to get a copy of that file also if you could. Right click on it and choose send to < Compressed (zipped) Folder. Please email the zipped folder to here so it can be examined and sent to the proper people. Be sure to include a link to this thread in the email.

You may need to enable hidden file to see it so Please set your computer to show all files.
  • Double-click My Computer.
  • Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 2
You have SpywareGuard running on your machine and that is good. But prior to doing the fix below with hijackthis it needs to be turned off.
Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program, Menu, file, exit, and confirm the programs close.

Step 3
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [srvreg] C:\WINDOWS\System32\srvreg.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [DCASS SUBLOAD] ncrvs.exe

O16 - DPF: {CAFEEFAC-0014-0001-0002-ABCDEFFEDCBA} (Environnement d'exécution Java 1.4.1_02) -

Step 4
Please delete the following files/folders:

Step 1
You have SpywareGuard running on your machine and that is good. But prior to doing the fix below with hijackthis it needs to be turned off.
Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program, Menu, file, exit, and confirm the programs close.

Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Bool Value] MV2.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [Microsoft Bool Value] MV2.exe

Step 3
Please delete the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\MV2.exe

If you have any problem deleting these files, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 4
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Dear Alan,

Everything went fine, no problem to delete the file MV2.exe.

Here is the new log. Hopefully, there won't be anything wrong this time ;-)

Thanks one more time,
Christophe (alias tristof)

Your new log is clean. :)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
4. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore'

I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Alan, Thank you for your help ;) . I really appreciated. I followed all your guidelines to avoid being infected next time :oops: Sincerely, Christophe (alias tristof)
