My familys computer has been running poorly for a while now, and now that i'm home i've been fixing it up as much as I can, but there still problems with it. On startup, you get two error messages. One from WJView, saying "Error: Could not execute main: The system cannot find the file specified." The other is from RUNDLL and says "Error loading D0CE0C16B1. The specified module could not be found."

Also, McAfee anti-virus was recently installed, but now when you try to shut down the computer, it goes to a blue screen and just stays there until you hold the power button on the CPU till it turns off. Also, on start-up, you get a a thing from McAfee saying that wuaclt.exe is trying to access the internet, and whether or not you want to grant access. What is this program?

One more thing, when I ran Spybot Search & Destroy, one of the problems that came up was "Delfin Project," there were 20 entries, and it couldn't be fixed.

srtangen,

Welcome to Tom Coyote, sorry about the delay but we have more logs to work than volunteers to look at them.

I have to tell you straight up that this is one of the most heavily infected computers that I have run accross in quite awhile. Its most likely been caused by irresponsible surfing of the internet. This computer has one foot on a banana peel and the other foot on a reformat of windows. But hopefully we can avoid that.

We need to disable the Tea Timer in Spybot as to not interfere with the fix.
Open Spybot and go to Mode> Advanced Mode> Tools> Resident and take the checkmark out of Tea Timer

What I would like you to do first is go to the Add -Remove programs in the Control Panel and remove these programs if there present.

C:\Program Files\IncrediFind
C:\Program Files\MyPointsPointAlert
C:\Program Files\PeDevice
C:\Program Files\Viewpoint

You have two Anti Virus programs running , since you installed Mcafee you need to uninstall Symantec.
C:\Program Files\Symantec Security Center

===========================================

You have a Peper infection. This needs to be taken care of first.
Download this removal tool and save it to your desktop:

PeperFix

Now reboot your computer into
Safe Mode <–link to
tutorial on how to get to safe mode.

Open PeperFix.exe and click Find and Fix.

When it has completed, reboot back into Safe Mode to run it again. If you get a message in blue text that no
files were found then you have successfully removed Peper. You may need to run it a time or two more, always rebooting afterward, until you get the clean message.

Then reboot back into normal mode.

============================================

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

[external image: Posted Image]

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

[external image: Posted Image]

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. When it is done, the results of the scan will be displayed and it will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

I need to see the log from Smitfraud before we proceed.
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm working on what you said, so far I've only gotten to the add/remove business. I tried to delete MyPoints Alert, but got a WJView Error saying Error: Could not execute Maine: The system cannot find the file specified. For Viewpoint, there is a Viewpoint Manager and Viewpoint Media Player, do I delete them both? The other two were not listed.
Ok, everything else is done. There was no Symantec in add/remove programs, and I ran the peper fix two times but both times it came up with nothing. Here is my log from SmitFraudFix: SmitFraudFix v2.46 Scan done at 22:28:51.53, Tue 05/23/2006 Run from C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Desktop\SmitfraudFix OS: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] Fix ran in normal mode »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» C:\ »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» C:\WINDOWS »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» C:\WINDOWS\system »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» C:\WINDOWS\Web »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» C:\WINDOWS\system32 »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Start Menu »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\FAVORI~1 »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Desktop »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» C:\Program Files »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Corrupted keys »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Desktop Components [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Desktop\Components\0] "Source"="About:Home" "SubscribedURL"="About:Home" "FriendlyName"="My Current Home Page" »»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»»» Sharedtaskscheduler !!!Attention, following keys are not inevitably infected!!! Good Morning srtangen, :D

A couple of points ,

wuaclt.exe <– this could or could not be a virus, we will know more in a bit.

Delfin Project
<– Is malware, read about it here
http://www.auditmypc.com/process/dpi.asp

Nowadays unforturently, we have to be so over cautious on what we download and install . You have to read the EULA ( End User Licence Agreement ). If the program does not include one, dont install it, if it does, read it, way down on the end of it if it says something to this effect ( by installing this software you give us the right to install addtional software for marketing purposes ) Thats your tip off, dont install it.

Syamantec Security Center may be listed under Norton, check again and remove anything you see with Norton as you now have Mcafee.

It looks like both the Peper Trojan and Smitfraud came up negative, it looks like you downloaded files to install but they never were implemented :thumbup:

Now you will need to print this out or you can copy and paste it into Notepad and save it to your desktop so you will have it handy because we will be offline for part of the fix.

Lets download a couple of programs and update them but dont run them yet.

1. . You have Ewido installed, open it up, check for updates and then close out the program.

2. Download the standalone version of CWShredder to your desktop, check for updates but dont run it yet.
http://www.intermute.com/spysubtract/cwshr…r_download.html

OK, here we go.

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check all these entries and click on Fix Checked.

Post back with the Ewido Report and a New HJT Log please.
Alright.

The Norton thing I know I deleted a few days ago, but after my original post.

I deleted the stuff in Hijack This you said to, a couple entries weren't there anymore though.

CWShredder I already had downloaded onto their computer, I ran it again and it came up with nothing.

Ewido kind of went insane. I got two warnings, the first one saying SecuritySuite.exe-Corrupt File. The file or directory C:\Progra~1\Canon\PhotoRewcort\art\web_teasers is corrupt and unreadable. Please run Chkdsk utility. Then I got the same warning again a few minutes later. Also at the end of the scan I got another popup deal that said File "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\local settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files.IES\OPMNW1M3\popcaploader_v6[1].cab\popcaploader.dll" cannot be removed because it is embedded in the archive "C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\local settings\Temp\Temporary Internet Files.IES\OPMNW1M3\popcaploader_v6[1].cab\popcaploader.dll" Do you want to remove the whole archive? I said no because I wasn't sure, but when I restarted the computer I got a blue screen that said diskcheck for consistencey of Chkdks, it went through three steps, than said that the registry recovery was sucessful. Here's my ewido scan log:

I looked for the files you said, and found/deleted MyPointsAlert, PeDevice, and Viewpoint. The others weren't there.

Also, the RUNDLL error message that the computer used to get on startup is now gone. So I guess that's progress..

Hello Again, :D

We have made a lot of progress :thumbup: but we still have a little more to do.

With all the errors for Ewido, if your just using the trial, uninstall it and redownload it and do a fresh install of this great program, or if you bought it, uninstall it and set it up again. With all the malware and trojans you had on your system it may have become corrupted.

My Points, my wife uses this with no problem but what you dont want is the alerter .

Did you or your ISP set this proxyserver ?? If not than you can remove it.
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = local.,,

Open HJT Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, check these items and click on Fix Checked

Remove this only if you or your ISP have not set it.
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = local.,

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [MyPointsPointAlert] wjview /cp:p "C:\Program Files\MyPointsPointAlert\System\Code" Main lp: "C:\Program Files\MyPointsPointAlert"

Make sure you still have windows set to show all files and folders and boot back into Safemode and delete the following files and folders.

C:\Program Files\MyPointsPointAlert
C:\Program Files\TopSearch

You will have to use the windows search and find both these files, they could be in either C:\, C:\windows or C:\windows\system32
aim.exe <– this is the W32/Sdbot-YT virus

If you look at the two 04 entries for AOL Instant Messanger, look at the spelling, this is bogus and part of the W32/Sdbot-YT virus
the spelling should be MESSENGER not MESSANGER

ptmg1v.dll <– This one is unknown malware

Reboot normally and lets run a couple of online virus scanners.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/ <– Have this set to Autoclean and let me know of anything if found and could not remove.
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/ <– Panda wont remove anything but it will give us a report that may show if anything is hidding that we cant see.

Post back with a New HJT log and the Panda Report.

Ken :D
I reinstalled ewido, it scanned fine…found 2 more things, I have a log if you want to see it.

As for the R1 entry in hijack this, I have no idea who set it. Is there a way to tell?

I deleted all the stuff you said to in hijack this, and all those other files that I could find.

The housecall scanner found a lot of stuff, and a lot of it couldn't be deleted. DOWN_SE, ADW_SE, and BHO_SE. They all had multiple entries with numbers after them, I can list all the numbers if you want, but there were around 100. It also listed 2 vulnerabilities, ASP.net path validation vulnerability, and vulnerability in MSN Messenger could lead to remote code execution.

I'm working on the panda scan right now, it gave me different options for what to scan, so I just chose 'local disk' Do I need to scan all the different options?

Here's a new hijack this log, and i'll post the panda one as soon as its done…

srtangen,

Your log looks soooooooooo much better :thumbup:

Just to cover a few things, you had markers in your log for CoolWebSearch but we were able to remove it with HJT. You had so many different malware markers in your log and some are responsible for downloading other malware, we ran option #1 for smitfraud as a precaution and it came up clean. You also had one marker that sometimes is responsible for installing the Vundo tojan but we removed it and I dont see Vundo on your log. :thumbup:

The virus you had appears to be gone. :thumbup:

I reinstalled ewido, it scanned fine…found 2 more things, I have a log if you want to see it.

It wouldnt be a bad idea to run Ewido in Safemode again and post the report.

As for the R1 entry in hijack this, I have no idea who set it. Is there a way to tell?

You can remove it and if it gives you a problem you can just reinstall it with HJT. If needed, open HJT View a List of Backups click on that entry and click on Restore.

ASP.net

This was installed when you installed your printer and I dont think its anything to worry about. You may want to check with the HP website for updates and see if any are available for your printer.

MSN Messenger

What I would do here is open up Internet Explorer and go to Tools> Windows Updates and download any critical updates that are available. Do not download and install any driver files, just critical updates, I know that in the last month or so that they posted one or two for Messenger.

I'm working on the panda scan right now, it gave me different options for what to scan, so I just chose 'local disk' Do I need to scan all the different options?

Just the local disk is fine. Besure to post the report.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [PTRUN32] C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptrun32\ptr32w.exe
This entry is for some sort of Parent Monitoring Tool , its spyware unless you installed it yourself to monitor your kids. If you didn't, then you can fix it with HJT, then remove C:\WINDOWS\system32\ptrun32

The rest of your log looks good, but you had so much bad activity going on, I would like you to download and run the trial of Spysweeper. This will clean you up real well along with giving us a log that may show if something is hidden that we cant see. You dont have to run Spysweeper in Safemode.

Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here
Scroll to the bottom of the page and install the 4.5 trial and not the free online scan.
Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address,
it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)

You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C.
Under What to Sweep, check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next

From 'Results', select the Session Log tab. Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Restart your computer, and then please copy and paste the SpySweeper log into this thread.

So, I would like to see the Spy Sweeper log, the new Ewido Report and a New HJT log along with the Panda report when your done.

I just want you to know that your doing great :thumbup: I will be offline for the next 2 weeks starting Sunday morning, so if we dont have this completely resolved by late Saturday afternoon, another helper from the forum will take over for me. After we have determined that your system is clean, I have some free tools and tips for you to install to help keep you more secure on the internet.

Ken :D

srtangen,

Lets fix these with HJT, dont worry about the 016 entries as you will just be prompted to download them next time you visit the site.

Lets fix this one, you can always restore it if needed, I dont think you do need it.

Your log looks good, I dont see any malware problems but am concerned about a few things that the scans found.

Download Pocket Killbox to your desktop, unzip it to a folder that you can find

C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\tvmcwrd.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\Process.exe

* Highlight all the files with the complete path in the quote and press Ctrl C on your keyboard.

* Open Pocket Killbox
* Go to File > Paste from clipboard
* Set it to Delete on Reboot
* Tick the box that says End Explorer shell while killing file
* If its not greyed out..Click the radio button that say Unregister .dll before deleting.
* Make sure ALL Files is selected
* Click on the Red circle with the white X
* It will ask you to confirm the deletion…Say yes
* It will ask you to reboot, say yes

We need to run this quick program to make sure that a rootkit is still not installed on your computer.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download AproposFix © Swandog46 from here:
Aproposfix

Save it to your desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Then please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click aproposfix.exe and unzip it to the desktop. Open the aproposfix folder on your desktop and run RunThis.bat. Follow the prompts.

When the tool is finished, please reboot back into normal mode, and post a new HijackThis log, along with the entire contents of the log.txt file in the aproposfix folder.

I would like you to run this quick program, it will pick up any bad files that we cant see,

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

These are all quick programs, I would like to see the log from Aprospos fix , Blacklight and one last HJT log please. Hopefully this will do it.

Ken :D

All the errors are gone from startup, but the computer still dosen't turn off without holding down the power button.
Try this, if it don't help at all I can direct you to some windows tech support sites that deal with this as it may be a windows issue and not malware related.

* Click Start>Run
* Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
* Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
* This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things. You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

Read this about windows shutdown.
http://www.aumha.org/win5/a/shtdwnxp.php

Let me know if it helped, in the meantime I am going over your new log and will be back in a bit. Both Aprosos and Blacklight found nothing :thumbup:

Ken
srtangen,

Your log looks good :thumbup:

Spysweeper is a great program, but also a resource hog, since its a trial its going to stop working anyway so remove it with the Add-Remove programs in the Control Panel.

You can fix this item also with HJT.

You have an awful lot of programs starting up when you start your computer, these are optional but remember they also have to end , with so many running it could be clogging up your shutdown. Look them over and you can decide which if any you want to disable. It wont prevent you from running the program manually, it just wont start when windows starts. Remember you can always use HJT to restore any that you have fixed.

Here are some free programs and tips for keeping your system up to date, and to help keep all the riff raff out of your system.

Be sure to follow the instructions for System Restore because everything we removed is backed up in that program and if you ever use it to revert your system to an earlier date, you can reinfect your self all over again.

Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < When it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

Now that your clean, we need to erase all possible older infected files that may still be lurking on your system.
* Clean out your TEMP FILES
* This procedure should be run from SAFEMODE for better results.

To Enter SAFEMODE

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

* Go to My Computer/ C: Drive/ Documents and Settings/ Every User on this Computer Local Settings
and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder and the Temporary Internet Files Folder <–Just the contents, not the folder itself.

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Temp and delete all the contents of the Temp Folder <– But not the temp folder itself.

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Prefetch and remove all the contents of the Prefetch Folder. <–But not the Prefetch folder itself.

NOW RE-BOOT NORMALLY

* Open INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
* When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Now Empty your Recycle Bin

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your
system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* ClickProperties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember, You will have to be in Catagory View to see this

* Make sure that your ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE is up to date and run a full scan at least once aweek.

* Here are Free Anti-Virus Programs if you need one. Just install one because with AV software…MORE IS NOT BETTER.

AVG Free Edition
AntVir Personal Edition

* Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.

* Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

* Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and
give you the option to deny the change.

* IE- Spyad IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains
in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed,
although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

* Firefox Browser
It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use
them both. When it asks you if you want it to be your default browser, say NO and take the checkmark out of the box to ask you again. After you use this
for awhile, you will want to make it your default.

* Thunderbird Mail There companion mail program was highly favored in PCWorld Magazine,
this has a good spam filter and is more secure than Outlook Express.

* Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't
access the internet without it.

* WINDOWS UPDATES - Enable Automatic Updates
Right click on MY COMPUTER/Click on PROPERTIES/ AUTOMATIC UPDATES and put a mark in the radio button
DOWNLOAD UPDATES FOR ME BUT LET ME CHOOSE WHEN TO INSTALL THEM.

* Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL> PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE> REARRANGE ITEMS ON YOUR HARD DISK TO MAKE PROGRAMS RUN FASTER
This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.
