Hi, my girlfriend's roommate asked me to take a look at her laptop because it was running incredibly slow and after a little while of running a non-closable window stating the "NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Shutting down computer" pops up on the screan and it gives exactly 1 minute. I have seen similar things like this before but after trying everything I could think of, I have been unable to fix this particular problem. Her computer was incredibly infected. I used Avast, AdAware, MBAM, SpyBot. In the process Multiple trojans, a few virus and some spyware were detected and removed. I attempted to setup Super Anti Spyware but the computer would not let me. It just gives me an error stating that it can no longer access the windows setup utility.

A few simptoms I have noticed include:

The computer runs very slow, I checked the task manger processes and found 1 of the svchost.exe processes was concistently taking 50% of the CPU.
Next Microsoft Visual C++ has an error and shuts down
A little while later suddenly all of the Antivirus processes of Avast are shutdown.
Next (sometimes but not always) there is a WIN32 error,
Then finally NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM Shutting down computer The message states that Windows must shutdown Because the Remote Procedure Call service terminated unexpectedly.

I am not sure what else to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Given the nature of the problems that exist, and those that you have already dealt with, you need to consider the possibility of system file corruption and that will take a reformat and reinstall to sort out. Unfortunately some systems just aren't worth the trouble to attempt to clean and something as seriously infected as you describe would seem to be a candidate for this label.
I suggest you back up any important files and then reinstall the operating system. Do bear in mind that any executable files (.exe) that you back up could be infected, so I would stick with text files and images if at all possible.

You should be able to abort the shutdown by going to Start > Run… and entering shutdown -a into the text box and clicking OK.
If you copy and paste the above command into Notepad (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad) and then save the file as "abort.bat" onto the Desktop, you can just double click the file to run the command - the quotation marks are necessary to avoid the file being saved with the default .txt file extension.
Thanks for the response. I was thinking that it was probably too corrupt and needed a reformat. I was trying to avoid that because I was unsure of how I was going to be able to remove all her images and music before the computer shutdown. Thanks for that command. I will try that now.
