Hello,

I am hoping to get some help on a problem with constant ads opening up. It started recently when I stupidly downloaded a regeistry cleaner. I followed the post for the problem with qklinkserver.com which included running CWShredder - ETrust Antivirus - Panda Active scan - Spybot and ADAware and EWIDO. They all eliminated items but I still get pop ups. Below is my current HiJackthis log file. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello KEDSA,

Welcome to the Tom Coyote Forum, sorry about the delay but we get so busy around here that sometimes we cant get to logs as fast as we would like to.

I see a few infections on your system that we need to get rid of.

Lets do this......

* Click on MY COMPUTER
* Then on your C: Drive
* Then to TOOLS/ FOLDER OPTIONS/ VIEW
* Choose the radio button to SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS
* Take the checkmark out of HIDE EXTENSIONS FOR KNOWN FILE TYPES
* Then APPLY/ OK

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run VundoFix as a task.
  • You will receive a message saying vundofix will close and re-open in a minute or less. Click OK
  • When VundoFix re-opens, click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
Hold off on posting back just yet.

Download and install Ewido Anti-Malware
Ewido Anti-Malware
* When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu
* Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop for it to double-click.
o Click on update
o You should see Update Complete when done.
o Now close out the program <-- Dont run it yet

Now reboot into Safemode
To Enter SAFEMODE

* Go to START/ SHUT OF YOUR COMPUTER/ RESTART
* As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly, this will bring up a menu.
* Use the UP AND DOWN ARROW KEYS to scroll up to SAFEMODE
* Then press the ENTER KEY ON YOUR KEYBOARD

Now open Ewido
o Click on scanner.
o Run a full system scan
o Let the program scan the machine.
o While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK.
o Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report.
o Click Save report.
o Save the report to your desktop.

Still in Safemode, Open HJT Scan Only , close all open windows and put a checkmark in the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O2 - BHO: web compressor - {23FB5ADD-DA37-4a40-9FC0-B0E2384CDE92} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nso3C.dll
O2 - BHO: RieMon Class - {70F6A776-579A-4C95-BA88-134253907752} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\irsmdngz.dll
O16 - DPF: {3299935F-2C5A-499A-9908-95CFFF6EF8C1} (Quicksilver Class) - https://scpwlb.ops.p...quicksilver.cab

Look for and make make sure these flles are gone, if not delete them
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nso3C.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\irsmdngz.dll

Reboot normally

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as FindFile.bat and save it on your Desktop.

dir C:\Program Files\??stem32\l?gonui.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Locate FindFile.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the text here.

So, this is what I need from you to proceed,

1. The Vundo Report
2. The Ewido Report
3. The report from Findfile.bat
4. A new HJT log.

Ken :D

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as FindFile.bat and save it on your Desktop.

C:\Program Files\??stem32

Download and Install CCleaner

* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < When it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes

Tutorial for CCleaner
http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp

Just a sidenote, when you copy and paste a HJT log into this thread, I need it in normall mode, when you run it in Safemode it is not showing me the whole picture.

Post back with the Find Files txt report and a new HJT log.

Hello Again KEDSA,

I have never seen this happen before but it looks like CCleaner may have removed that bad entry for the Purity Infection, it gone and the rest of your log looks good. :thumbup:

Is this a site that you use, if not we can fix it with HJT??
http://www.home.integrity.com/

Post back and let me know about this site because it has set up a proxy server for it and I cant find any info on it. I would appreciate your input on this so I will know for next time I see it.

I'm glad things are back to normal, post back and I have some tips and free programs for you to install to keep your system more secure.

Ken, Yes I do use Integrity.com. It is a service that filters our internet access. It does a good job at blocking almost all sites that are undesireable. Sometimes it is too restrictive but you can request a page be unblocked if it is truely acceptable. Overall it is better safe than sorry I say. Thanks again for the help.... Great Job. KEDSA

KEDSA,

Thanks for the info, I will keep that in my notes. :D

Here are things to do and install to help keep you more secure. Be sure to follow the instructions for System Restore because all that we cleaned is backed up in the program and if you ever use it to revert your system to an earlier date you can reinfect yourself all over again.

* Download and Install CCleaner, Click on RUN TOOL, when you run the Issues Scan and it asks
you to back up the registry Say Yes.

Now that your clean, we need to erase all possible older infected files that may still be lurking on your system.

* Go to My Computer/ C:/ Windows/ Prefetch and remove all the contents of the Prefetch Folder.
But not the Prefetch folder itself.

* Open INTERNET EXPLORER
* Click on the TOOLS MENU
* Then INTERNET OPTIONS
* At the GENERAL TAB (which should be the first tab you are currently on),
* click on the DELETE FILES BUTTON and put a checkmark in DELETE ALL OFFLINE CONTENT.
* Then press the OK BUTTON . This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes.
* When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Now Empty your Recycle Bin

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your
system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* Click Properties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.

* Right-click My Computer.
* ClickProperties.
* Click the System Restore tab.
* UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

* Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember You will have to be in Catagory View to see this feature

* Make sure that your ANTI-VIRUS SOFTWARE is up to date and run a full scan at least once aweek.

* Here are Free Anti-Virus Programs if you need one

AVG Free Edition
AntVir Personal Edition

* Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.

* Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.

* Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.

* Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and
give you the option to deny the change.

* IE- Spyad IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains
in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed,
although you will still be able to connect to the sites.

* Firefox Browser
It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use
them both. When it asks you if you want it to be your default browser, say NO and take the checkmark out of the box to ask you again. After you use this
for awhile, you will want to make it your default.

* Thunderbird Mail There companion mail program was highly favored in PCWorld Magazine,
this has a good spam filter and is more secure than Outlook Express.

* Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't
access the internet without it.

* WINDOWS UPDATES - Enable Automatic Updates
Right click on MY COMPUTER/Click on PROPERTIES/ AUTOMATIC UPDATES and put a mark in the radio button
DOWNLOAD UPDATES FOR ME BUT LET ME CHOOSE WHEN TO INSTALL THEM.

* Go to START/ CONTROL PANEL> PERFORMANCE AND MAINTENANCE> REARRANGE ITEMS ON YOUR HARD DISK TO MAKE PROGRAMS RUN FASTER
This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.

Thanks for using Tom Coyote, I'm glad things are better and that I was able to help you.
