Never Ending Pop-ups (HijackThis Log)

I keep receiving a very steady and consistent amount of pop-up ads even while not using a browser. I've run the latest versions of Ad-Aware SE, Spybot, and CWShredder to no avail. Your help would be greatly appreciated. Here's my HijackThis Log, thanks.

Please download and run CWShredder here
Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

We have found that some of the CWS infections can be removed better from safe mode, rather than normal mode.
To get to safe mode use the F8 key while booting the machine.

Download Winhelp2002's deldomain.inf to your desktop. http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/DelDomains.inf

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'
It will not appear to have done anything, thats ok.

***Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Download and run - ATF Cleaner instructions here.

Download Ewido Security Suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Then click on Start Update
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
If you are having problems with the updater, you can use this link to manually update Ewido.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
  • During some scans with ewido it is finding cases of false positives.
  • You will need to step through the process of cleaning files one-by-one.
  • If ewido detects a file you KNOW to be legitimate, select none as the action.
  • DO NOT select "Perform action on all infections"
  • If you are unsure of any entry found select none for now.
Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
Click Save report.
Save the report .txt file to your desktop.
Now close ewido security suite and post the results here.
With a new hijackthis log.

Please download Brute Force Uninstaller to your desktop. (rightclick on this link and choose save as, if using IE save target as)
  • Right click the BFU folder on your desktop, and choose Extract All
  • Click "Next"
  • In the box to choose where to extract the files to,
  • Click "Browse"
  • Click on the + sign next to "My Computer"
  • Click on "Local Disk (C:) or whatever your primary drive is
  • Click "Make New Folder"
  • Type in BFU
  • Click "Next", and Uncheck the "Show Extracted Files" box and then click "Finish".
  • Download qoofix.bat (rightclick on this link and choose save as, if using IE save target as)
  • Place qoofix.bat in your C:\BFU - folder. (Important!)
  • Doubleclick qooFix.bat, Close all browsers and explorer folders.
  • Choose option 1 (Qoolfix autofix) and follow the prompts.
  • Please be patient, it will take about five minutes.
  • After the PC has restarted please post another hijackthis log.

I have fixed all the items you've specified for HijackThis. After this I ran Windows in Safe Mode. I could not locate any of the files you listed for me to delete. None at all. I tried using Windows' search tool to find any also, but could locate none of them on my hard drive. I also could not find the two files (C:\Program Files\Common Files\svchostsys\svchostsys.exe and C:\WINDOWS\System32\vbkifk.exe) that you wanted a copy of.

After Dark is a cd-rom with a collection of screensavers, developed by Berkeley Systems. I've had it for almost 10 years. I know it contains no spyware/malware. Haven't you ever seen the flying toasters?

webHancer was not located in my add and remove programs. Also I couldn't find the folder: C:\Program Files\webHancer.

I've fixed the items you listed for HijackThis.

Currently my computer is running pretty well. I really haven't noticed any pop-up ads in a long time, except for when a browser is open.

:o Click start > run > type in msconfig > click the start up tab and make sure all the boxes have a check mark.

Under the general tab there should be a green check mark in Normal start up.

:thumbup: ok log looks fine.
Spybot S&D lets you kill the 04's, the startups. Start Spybot click mode at the top left,
make sure that advanced mode is checked. Then click on tools on the lower left.
Then system startup, to the right is a double arrow bar click it to expand.
Now clicking on a value you will get a description of the command line. Removing the green
check mark will stop the startup, should you decide that you need or want it back just
replace the check mark. Restarting your PC will complete the change.
Remove the check marks from the ones listed below.

One of the best features of Windows XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus or spyware infection.
There can be backups made in the System Restore folder.
Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after a virus or spyware removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account
which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because
you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
