I seem to have got myself stuck in safe mode. I was running a program to get rid of spyware and reading aguide it said enter a file name, i did and now i seem to be stuck in safe mode reebooting doesn't work and neither does system restore. Anyhelp would be appreciated, thanks.
Hi Mike w, You might have gotten stuck in SAFE Mode if you booted to SAFE Mode by selecting SAFEBOOT in your System Configuration Utility Boot.INI. If you know what I'm referring to, just go "uncheck" SAFEBOOT. or To get to System Configuration Utility GOTO the following: Start - Run - (type)MSCONFIG - (enter) This will bring up your System Configuration Utility screen. Select the BOOT.INI Tab Look in the checkboxes along the left side. /SAFEBOOT /NOBUIBOOT /BOOTLOG /BASEVIDEO /SQS If any of the checkboxes in front of those items is checked - uncheck it. Press "Apply" then "Close" to Reboot into Normal Mode. Post back, hopefully with a report of success. In the meantime, have you completed the "fix" in your HJT Log? SpyAxe/Spyfalcon is difficult and poses some security risks to the user. Not a good idea to be doing any transactions on the Internet until you get it fixed. Please be patient, but check back for responses in the HJT Forum. Those folks are wonderful and will provide a ton of good help for you. Best Regards Best Regards
Hello again Mike w, Please do take a look at the MSCONFIG - BOOT.INI Tab and uncheck any checked selections. However, I've been reading some posts at another forum dealing with something that sounds much like your problem. Conclusion may be that the malware infection that you will be cleaning up over in the HJT Forum may also be the culprit for the SAFE Mode booting. Please come on back and post if you continue to have problems after completing your HJT work. Best Regards
Hi Mike w, As a follow-up, after you get cleaned up in HJT Forum, if you still have a problem booting Normal, consider uninstalling and re-installing your video card or onboard video driver. Go to your brand name computer (HP, Dell, Compaq, etc) or motherboard manufacturer website to get the proper video driver. Alternatively, if you've installed an upgrade video card, go to that manufacturer site for the driver. Please not that the "most recent" updated driver will not always work "best" for any one specific machine. Therefore you may need to consider other drivers from the manufacturer's list. Note: If you intend to install a video driver, you "must" uninstall the old driver before installing a new one. Download and "save" the driver you intend to install. Then uninstall the old driver via Device manager, or use the manufacturer's own "uninstall tool", then install the new driver from its "saved" location. Looks like you may have a SIS Silicon Integrated Systems integrated video device. If so, get the driver from the MotherBoard manufacturer. Best Regards
Thanks Dough your help is much appreciated. I am currently checking the web from an internet cafe so will see if it works when i return home but i believe the msconfig was what i typed in so thanks i will post my hjt log when it is abck up and running but believe it is fixed although my computer still says it has a virus. Thanks once again Mike w
So you were able to run the recommended SpyFalcon fix? Good. Yes, I'd post back to HJT Forum with a fresh HJT Log even if I thought I'd cleaned it up. That whole constellation of malware allows not just their own but other infections to enter a machine. Best of Luck to you. Doug
