unable to shutdown..cant install stuf.......read on

hello i have problems with my laptop computer…. i am unable to run virus scans, unable run programs such as word or msn messenger… i cant shut down properly. i am also unable to install software, even download from the interent as my computer freezes in the process. can you help me please… THANKS

you could do a hard shutdown, (power it off) then restart it. during the restart tap the f8 key to boot into safe mode. chose the safe mode option from the list, may take couple minutes to get to the safe mode desktop. once in safe mode run your antivirus software and any other malware tool you might have. see if it cleans anything up.
