[Zebadiah]

Hey there. A friend of mine has had a hard time with her laptop running really slow. I took a look and got rid of the basic things. I also added Spybot S&D, Adaware, and Spyware Blaster. There are a few things that are not being removed, even after a restart, so, I ran HJT. Here is the log. Thanks for any help!

hi Zebadiah, log dosnt look to bad. one thing you could do is check for updates to AV, spybot etc and then run them in safe mode. you reach safe mode by tapping the f8 key during a reboot. chose the first option SAFE MODE. ---------------------------- for the log: go to start>run and type in--> services.msc,<--in the list of services that comes up look for, under the name column look for these two, may not be named exactly as below, but should be close. Secure MSVS (MicroService32) Service 8 (Service Filter) right click on it and select properties. under the general tab: make sure that the service status is: Stopped and the Startup type is: disabled next: scan with HJT, put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click fix checked. O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe O23 - Service: Secure MSVS (MicroService32) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\msvcrs.exe (file missing) O23 - Service: Service 8 (Service Filter) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\smncs.exe (file missing) ------------------------------------ also do this: Click Start>Run then type %temp% Hit OK. Delete all the files you can. Empty your Temp folders. Go to Start > Run and type:cleanmgr. Windows will scan. When done check these 3 and press *ok* to remove: Temporary Files Temporary Internet Files Recycle Bin -------------------------------------

Thanks for taking a look at it. I removed the tems from the list, and disabled the two items you instructed. I then went and deleted all the temp files without a problem. I updated all the spyware sweepers, and then ran them in safe mode. In Spybot, I was unable to remove something called "ControlServices" Is this something I should be concerned about, or is it something that might be a part of her McAfee. There were two other products that I ignored because they were apart of the McAfee program.
