[stmayhem]

ok so i got hit by spywarestrike (not exactly sure where, because it loaded onto my system after i closed firefox)

anyhoo... i tried the self help fix and so far it hasn't worked (and that dayam pop up in the system tray is driving me batty)

I've also tried some other programs like spydoctor and they didn't help either.

so here's my hijack log. if anyone can offer some help it would be much appreciated.

Hello stmayhem, welcome to the forum.

Looks like you have items unchecked in Msconfig.

click Start> Run> type in Msconfig tap enter key.
put a check by all items, exit msconfig , but Don't reboot.


To disable TeaTimer

1) Run Spybot-S&D
2) Go to the Mode menu, and make sure "Advanced Mode" is selected
3) On the left hand side, choose Tools -> Resident
4) Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts


Now try the SpyAxe fix again.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Do a file search for this file and let me know.

i've already deleted that file and netrap.dll using killbox. so far so good... the popup in the system tray hasn't popped up yet... and all my scans (eido, spydoctor, spybot s & d) have turned up nothing. thankx for your help. i appreciate it.

We need to kill it from the registry or it can come back.

Please copy the contents of the following quote box into Notepad:
(Don't forget to include the REGEDIT4)

Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully"

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.

as for how the system runs... as good as before i got hit by spyware strike. programs open fine... both explorer and firefox run well... nothing seems to be amiss.

Only a couple dead ones to remove:

I suggest you do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O18 - Filter: text/html - (no CLSID) - (no file)
O18 - Filter: text/plain - (no CLSID) - (no file)

Close ALL windows and browsers except HijackThis and click "Fix checked"


Empty Recycle Bin.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK




If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
