Maybe I should have just followed the self help thing, but I'm not positive that I do indeed have SpyAxe or something else. In any event I keep getting this message on the toolbar saying "Your computer is infected! Windows has detected spyware infection! It is recommened to use special antispyware programs...." bla bla bla. It also originally changed my desktop to simple black text saying that my computer is infected, but after running Adaware it reverted back to my original desktop. Anyway here's my Hijack log, thanks a lot for the help:

Since then, I attempted to follow the self-help instructions. Unfortunately, during the disk cleanup following the smitfraud program, the computer crashed. I didn't even get to the part where I use Ewido Security Suite, and I have not followed any of the instructions after the double clicking of the RunThis.bat file in the smitfraud folder. The good news is that the spyaxe trojan seems to be gone! I no longer get that popup in the system tray. My computer still seems to be running slowly however.... Should I just complete the self-help instructions at this point? Given that the disk cleanup didn't finish, should I just run it separately? Here's my hijack log as it stands:

Click here >>>> http://www.downloads...org/KillBox.zip to download Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. In the 'Full Path of File to Delete' box, copy and paste the following, clicking the red 'Delete File' button (red circle with a white X) after pasting:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\paytime.exe

Click 'Exit' when done.

Make sure that you have no browser windows open as this could prevent the fix from working properly. Open HijackThis, scan and when complete, remove the following entries by checking the box to the left and clicking 'fixed checked':

Then

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Ok. Followed directions. Everything seems to have went fine except for the use of killbox. Killbox says that the file doesn't seem to exist. I dunno could one of my programs such as microsoft antispyware have automatically dealt with it? Anyway other than that I checked off the things you told me to in Hijack and I ran the ewido scan (the scan also cleaned the infections along with it I don't know if I was supposed to do that or not). Anyway here's my hijack log:

That was not the end of the log. What follows is a list of thousands and thousands of redundant things that were apparently cleaned with backup by the program. It would be very difficult to post it all here given the word limits. A typical line would be something like: :mozilla.332:C:\RECYCLER\NPROTECT\00113668.MOZ -> Spyware.Cookie.2o7 : Cleaned with backup In total, I think ewido said that it cleaned around 11,000 infected files.

That would not surprose me as you had a bunch of nasties on there.

Step # 1

Please download and run CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX.

http://www.majorgeek...7fd6b3ff02edc90

REBOOT

Step #2

Please download and run Spybot 1.4 & AdAware SE Then follow the instructions in the link below to run.

Spybot & Adaware Tutorial

REBOOT

Step # 3

Then do a virus scan here >>> Trend Micro

Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.

Sorry for the delay; due to a series of power outages I haven't had access to the Internet for a few days.
Followed instructions successfuly. CWshredder said it deleted no files.

Next you neeed to clean out your system restore. You can do that by turning it off then back on

To turn off Windows XP System Restore:

NOTE: These instructions assume that you are using the default Windows XP Start Menu and have not changed to the Classic Start menu. To re-enable the default menu, right-click Start, click Properties, click Start menu (not Classic) and then click OK.

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" as shown in this illustration:
5. Click Apply.
6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this.
7. Click OK.
8. Proceed with what you need to do; for example, virus removal. When you have finished, restart the computer and follow the instructions in the next section to turn on System Restore.

To turn on Windows XP System Restore:

1. Click Start.
2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
3. Click the System Restore tab.
4. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives."
5. Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. In my signature below is also a tutorial on how to harden IE, a good read and very helpful to stop these things in the future. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on.

Safe Surfing. :D
