:rant2: My windows 98 laptop (Dell) froze when I loaded the Hearts game and when I rebooted the machine, I got the Scandsk message "invalid long file name". There is no indication of what the file name is and furthermore windows, when loaded, shows a blank background screen and all the desktop programs are not shown (nor is the START or open windows bar). Basically the windows functionality is zero and I cant run any programs from windows. Safe mode screen is also blank. Just before windows completes you can just see the windows Start bar appearing and disappearing again. About all I can do is to boot to DOS but since I dont know the filename in question, I am lost. Sorry I cant run Hijackthis but can anyone who remembers W98 help me out? :wavey: PS Previously posted in Hijackthislog section…not resolved
