Slow/sluggish operation and user reports repeated pop-ups, etc. when surfing internet. Ad-aware removed several items and spybot didn't find any problems. Updated both and immunized latest through spybot. Also downloaded and installed latest IE-SPYADS, installed Sun Java, and beefed-up Explorer's security settings. These may fix the problems, but I've done this before and the user takes this laptop home and reports the same problems days later. So, I just wanted an expert to review the HiJack log before calling it quits. Thanks!

Run Shoot The Messenger http://www.grc.com/s...heMessenger.htm

And can you post a log from ever user on the computer.
Clearly indicate which log belongs to which user, the type of rights the account has (Admin or limited),
and for clarity post each log into a new post.

Was not able to run Shoot the Messenger - only works on NT/2000/XP. Error when trying to use on ME. I did use MSCONFIG to disable some of the extra processes that loaded on startup. This laptop was never configured for multiple users - just logon as default user. It is a Presario PIII with 320Mb RAM - maybe after loading all the power management, touchpad, and anti-virus carp** it's just overwhelmed... I just wanted to make sure there were no other obvious problems besides the fact that it's old.

Side question though... Here at the office we connect to the internet through a firewall router. At home the user just connects through a cable modem. Could that somehow allow for additional pop-ups, etc. when connecting to the internet at their home? Thanks again!

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following,

O9 - Extra button: Related - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm
O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Show &Related Links - {c95fe080-8f5d-11d2-a20b-00aa003c157a} - C:\WINDOWS\web\related.htm

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

You are running msconfig in /auto mode which means that you may have selectively removed some items in the past from the startup procedure.
This can be bad if they are malware, so we would like you to reenable those startup entries.

Now please create a new Hijackthis Log and post it as a reply.
