I have a Win 2000 SP 4 machine with IE 6 SP 1.

I have several problems with my machine, due to which I suspect some malware.

I am facing problems like:

1. When I try to run Add New Hardware from Control Panel, I get several errors like "Windows could not load the installer for XXXX"

2. If I try to run SFC, my machine crashes and shuts down.

3. If I try to insall Update Rollup 1 for Win 2000 SP 4, I get a "The memory could not be read/written" type of error. (By th way, my RAM is OK. I have tested with DocMemory)

So I tried to run Online Virus Scan at this URL: http://housecall60.t.../start_corp.asp

First I get a dialog box asking Do you want to install and run ...... by Trend Micro Inc.

I click Yes.

Then I get the error:

"The instruction at "0x77fcc2c0" referenced memory at "0x00000001". The memory could not be "written". Click on OK to terminate the program"

The actual memory address varies.

Why am I not able to run the virus scan ?
