Hello and welcome BACK to TomCoyote forum. Not my favorite O/S to work on, but I will give it a go. I do have a couple of items first though. 1) Daemon just cleaned a computer with Windows XP for you on 10/4, now on 11/7, you are back with a Windows Me computer?? Are these personal computers??
2) Please post once, do not make multiple posts. You posted on 11/7 then again on 11/8. Thanks and post a response to the first question.

Follow the instructions in the posted order.

1) Download CCleaner from this link: http://www.ccleaner.com/ Review the instructions http://www.ccleaner.com/help/tour1.asp and please do not run it until I ask you to.

2) Download, update, configure and run these two programs: http://tomcoyote.org/aawsb.php
The newest version of Ad-aware is 1.06 and Spybot 1.04. Even if you have these programs, use the link to get the newest version, update and configure them as in the link. Run Spybot first, reboot then run Ad-aware. Both programs back up what they remove so delete anything the programs say should be removed.

3) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

SHOW HIDDEN FILES: Follow the instructions in the link to enable hidden files for your operating system.
You may wish to reverse this process if you have any concern about anyone getting into these hidden system files.
http://www.xtra.co.n...1916458,00.html

RIGHT Click on Start then click on Explore. Locate and delete these items:

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\P2P NETWORKING\ >>> folder

4) Run these two free online scans, allow the ActiveX, they cannot run without it. Scan everything and remove anything located. Let me know if they find anything they can not remove.
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm

5) Run CCleaner, Windows & Applications when you run the registry cleaner (Issues) you will be prompted to backup before you can remove stuff, make sure you do. Then restart the computer and post a new HJT log in this same thread along with any feedback you have.

Thanks...pskelley

Hello and thank you for the help. Sorry about the multiple posts and yes they are both personal computers. This is just an older on that was neglected. Well, I have completed the process, but I ran into problems form the start. Adaware will not let me check two items. 1. Scanning Engine- Ignore spanned files when... 2. Cleaning Engine- During removal, unload Explorer... So, after that I am getting many things that are unable to be fixed after reboot, all in the C:\Restore\TEMP, all labeled A0962. So, the scans were uinable to get rid of many, many things! I am stuck! Thanks again PS!

Hello Sir, I am going to do my best to clean it up. I ask only that you do the same. Thank you.
Many tools we normally use will not run on this system, but the ones I gave you will. They are probably having trouble running because of all the junk on the system, as we slowly clean the junk, you will be able to run them. First, let me say that much of that junk was removed by HJT. There are still a few things we may remove, but that can wait. I want to know how the CCleaner worked? Did you review the tutorial and did you follow the directions. If you are unsure, then run the cleaner again.
Remove everything it locates, and make sure to backup when you clean the registry as suggested.

all in the C:\Restore\TEMP, all labeled A0962

I want you to read this article: http://support.micro...com/kb/q263455/ Once you are finished, then use the Manual Method here to purge the old System Restore files like this:
1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
2. Double-click System, and then click the Performance tab.
3. Click File System, and then click the Troubleshooting tab.
4. Click to select the Disable System Restore check box, click Apply, click to clear the Disable System Restore check box, click Apply, and then click OK.
5. Restart the computer when you are prompted to do so. When the computer restarts, the data store is purged and the System Restore feature begins monitoring the system again.

Now please open this link: http://www.computerh...es/ch000225.htm Follow all instructions for your Operating System to delete all Temp Files.

Now follow the instructions for your Operating System to remove all Temporary Internet Files: http://www.mvps.org/...02/delcache.htm

Run Spybot until it no longer finds anything, remove anything it finds. Do the same with Adaware.

It appears you have no Antivirus program running on this computer?? That is one way to get infected quickly. P2P file sharing is another. You must have some AV protection, here is a free program: http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php I suggest you download and install it, then update and run it removing anything it locates.
If you don't have a firewall, I would choose one from here: http://www.google.co...G=Google Search Please do this as soon as this computer is running better.

While you are completing the above, I would like to look at your uninstall programs list.
Open Hijackthis.
Click the "Open the Misc Tools" section Button.
Click the "Open Uninstall Manager" Button.
Click the "Save list..." Button.
Save it to your desktop. Copy and paste the contents into your reply.
Do this as soon as you can. I may spot something in the list causing trouble.

Thanks...pskelley

PSKelly you are GOOD! Everything is running clean and I am installing the AV and Firewall. Thanks a million! I do have one last question that concerns me. Why am I unable to select/deselect Scanning Engine- Ignore spanned files when... and Cleaning Engine- During removal, unload Explorer... in Adaware? Thanks for all your help! Chris

Hi Chris, sorry...they did not send my notification when you posted :( I found your post myself when checking this sunny Florida morning.

Here is my normal spiel for this uninstall list...lol, I won't know them all and I am looking for problems. I suggest you take a hard look and if you see anything you did not know was even there or no longer use, that you consider this an opportunity to clean out the stuff. Here is what I see:

If you use Adobe Acrobat 4.0, 5.0, these versions are outdated and 7.0 is available. sometimes it is better to remove the old version first and download the newest version fresh.

Ares Gold: be careful, p2p file sharing is very dangerous. Ask Google about it, file sharing that is.

Dell Solution Center I have two Dells and I have never used this resource waster. Just at least make sure it is turned off.

Diamond Mine Deluxe 1.81y Fun game :P

Just quickly, I see you have MSN so you probably use WMP10. You have two other media players installed, MusicMatch Jukebox and RealOne Player. If you don't use them at all you can uninstall them, or a least make sure they are not running everytime you boot.

That's all I see and I see no malware there.

I do have one last question that concerns me. Why am I unable to select/deselect Scanning Engine- Ignore spanned files when... and Cleaning Engine- During removal, unload Explorer... in Adaware?

While I can't answer that question and we do not have a forum dealing with Ad-aware issues GTO does: http://www.geekstogo..._aware-f62.html and http://castlecops.com/forum142.html does and here is a list of other support: http://forums.maddok...?showtopic=3977 all of which are free to use.

Post one more HJT log for a final look and you will be good to go.

Thanks...Phil
