Download the trial version of Spy Sweeper.

• Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)
• You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so. (This may take several minutes)
• Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives. Check Local Disc C. Under What to Sweep, check every box.
• Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.
• When the sweep has finished, click Remove to remove any items found.
  If SpySweeper asks to reboot the computer, please allow it to do so.
• Click Session Log in the upper right corner, copy everything in that window.
• Click the Summary tab and click Finish.
• Paste the contents of the session log you copied into your next reply.
• Exit Spy Sweeper.

If the computer did not reboot after the scan, do so now. Scan with HijackThis and post the fresh log as a reply to this thread.

Thanks so much for your help. I've run Spy Sweeper per your instructions and the session log is attached below. Several times during the sweep, Norton indicated it found Zestyfind. I cancelled the Norton scans to enable Spy Sweeper to complete it's scan. Spy Sweeper did ask to reboot, which I did and subsequently, I copied the session log. The PC seems quiet and so far no pop up ads while on-line. That's great!!!! this has been going on since July. Thanks again. If I need to complete any other clean up based on the session log info, please advise. Again, I truly appreciate your help. Download L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

If while running option #1, you receive an error similar to:

C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application

Close any programs you have open since this step requires a reboot.

From the l2mfix folder on your desktop, double click l2mfix.bat and select option #2 for Run Fix by typing 2 and then pressing enter, then press any key to reboot your computer. After a reboot, your desktop and icons will appear, then disappear (this is normal). L2mfix will continue to scan your computer and when it's finished, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back into this thread, along with a new hijackthis log.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other files in the l2mfix folder unless you are asked to do so!
If after the reboot the desktop icons dont dissappear or the log does not pop up then in the l2mfix folder double click the second.bat file to continue with the fix.

Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL =
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = local.,
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u

Optional items to check with HijackThis.
Fix these if you or an administrator did not set these restrictions with Internet Explorer or a program such as Spybot S&D wasn't used to set them.
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.


Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Please let us know how the computer is behaving.

Your new log appears clean.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.


I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Here are two very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D; and Adaware SE

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.
