Hi!

I am strugling with these anoying popups after I by mistake was stupid enough to install winfixer!

I have of course removed the damned thing again, and I have had ad-aware and spybot remove what they could, but I am still haveing all these popups from places where no popups should be expected (my own local homepage for exampel) - so I am quite sure that I still have something installed which should be removed.

I include my log from HijackThis here, and I will certainly appreciate a hint:

Thanks in adwance!

Kim.
Hi,

I have posted once before, but I cant find my post here, so I believe I did something wrong. Hopfully I am not double-posting.

I have had winfixer installed (certainly a mistake - I know that now!) - I have done my best to remove it. I have used its own uninstall, I have run ad-adware, spybot, and norton antivitus. After that I ran hijackthis and examined the log. I noticed something called new.net which obviously was unwanted, so I removed it with add/remove program.

Unfortunately I am still strugling with a lot of anoying popups! - all kind of gambling, dating and the like! - and they seems to pop up quite randomly - also from sites where I certainly wont expect it - they pops up from this site for example!

Any help would be greatly appreciated! :-)

PS. here comes my hijackthis log:

Reboot in normal mode and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread. :)
Wauw!!

I had never expected such a ligthing fast answer! - Thanks! - I am impressed! :-)

I followed your instruction, but I missed pressing F8 fast enough a couple of times so I booted in normal mode two times before I managed to get to "safe mode" - but of course I did not open anything before I got it in safe mode! - both times I shutted it down immediately - so I believe it didnt harm :-)

After I followed your instructions and deleted the malware files I tried browsing arround a little on the internet and nothing popped up, so I guess it worked!! :-) :-)

Here is the new log file you asked for:

Looks good!!!

GOD bless you!!!

M68 :)

Items you may wish to consider to harden your defenses against future infections:

Read "How did I get infected in the first place?"

Download/install IE-Spyad

IE-Spyad puts over 4000 known malicious web sites into IE's "restricted zone" to help prevent you from getting infected.

Check your browser settings at Qualsys.com

A series of "tests" (and suggested fixes) to help tweak IE's settings to help prevent infections when surfing the web.

Follow safe Internet practices:

1. Keep your virus definitions up to date, and scan your system regularly.

2. Don't open email, or download attachments from unrecognized email addresses.

3. Be careful when downloading email attachments, EVEN FROM PEOPLE YOU KNOW! Many virii, worms, and trojans infect a persons system then immeadiately spread themselves to the people in the infected persons addressbook via email attachments.

4. Be careful downloading files from the Internet. Scan all downloaded files with a reliable UP-TO-DATE antivirus program. Scan "zip" files BEFORE unzipping, and scan all unzipped files BEFORE USING THEM.

5. Keep your Windows and IE current with all the latest patches and updates.

Great!! - Thanks a lot!! - I will certainly buy you a beer next time you get near Copenhagen! ;-) Just one final question: I would like to know a little more about theese things, but my knowledge about Windows internals does simply not cover very far - I am normaly working with Unix but that does not help much in theese cases! ;-) I wonder if you maybee could point me to some good links to places where one can learn a little more? - maybee one day I could help myself and others to… :-) Once again - Thanks for all your help! :-) May the CPU be with you! - Kim.
