I've run Ad-Aware, AVG Anti Spyware, and Spybot Search & Destroy, all of which have told me that I don't have any spyware left. However, I have still have popups from time to time. Based on the popups, I THINK (though I'm not sure) I have some form of WinFixer. Please check out my log below, and any help at all would be much appreciated! I'm going crazy over this. :)

Hello moomoocow42 and welcome to the forums.

Before we start the fix I would like you to address a couple of issues.

You are running HijackThis directly from the C: drive. I recommend that you move HJT to it's own permanent folder so any backups that HJT makes will not be accidently deleted or lost.

Please do the following:Create a new permanent folder in a convenient location that you will remember. To do this: Open Windows Explorer.
Select the drive or folder that you would like to put HJT
From the menu select File > New > Folder
Rename the folder to something you will remember (ie HJT, HijackThis, ect…)
Now move HJT to the new folder that you created.
———————————————————-

I don't see any evidence of Antivirus software installed. I would recommend you put AV protection in place ASAP and here are a couple of free ones to try.

AVG AntiVirus
Avast Antivirus Home Version–Free

———————————————————–

On with the fix…

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

[external image: Posted Image]

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter

[external image: Posted Image]

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt

Regards,
Dave
Hi IndiGenus, thank you for the response! I appreciate the advice and have moved HijackThis to a separate folder. Hi! I think I should maybe mention that I've run this program previously and HAD found and removed something, if that information is useful. On this run, unfortunately, the fix came up with nothing. Here's the text file: VundoFix V6.3.16 Checking Java version… Java version is 1.4.2.3 Old versions of java are exploitable and should be removed. Java version is 1.5.0.8 Old versions of java are exploitable and should be removed. Scan started at 5:48:35 PM 3/19/2007 Listing files found while scanning…. No infected files were found. VundoFix V6.3.17 Checking Java version… Java version is 1.4.2.3 Old versions of java are exploitable and should be removed. Java version is 1.5.0.8 Old versions of java are exploitable and should be removed. Scan started at 10:01:34 PM 3/21/2007 Listing files found while scanning…. No infected files were found. Beginning removal… Hope this helps.
Hello moomoocow42,

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please reverse this process once the fix is complete.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {efbebdd6-ab9c-4fcf-876b-3233de187c1c} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipvsvr.dll
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\gebyxyx.dll

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Using Windows Explorer delete the following files if found.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipvsvr.dll
C:\windows\system32\gebyxyx.dll

  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop (12.6 MB).
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.

Use ATF Cleaner to remove temp files, cookies, cache, ect…

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Last but not least…you have not addressed the lack of Antivirus protection. Using the internet without this protection will get you re-infected before you know it. I would highly recommend you put one of the free programs I recommended in place ASAP. In the meantime:

Please go Here and do an online scan. Let it fix any infections.
Let me know what is found.

After scan, reboot and post a new HijackThis log

Also let me know how the computer is running now.
Hi Indi, so here's what happened: I made sure all the hidden files were showing as you instructed in Explorer. When I ran HijackThis to fix the ipvsvr.dll and gebyxyx.dll files, I received one error message: An unexpected error has occured at procedure: modBackup_MakeBackup(sItem=O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\gebyxyx.dll) I ran HijackThis again, and the same two files appeared. When I tried to Fix checked, the same error occured. Then, when I went to Explorer to delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipvsvr.dll and C:\windows\system32\gebyxyx.dll, I received the same error messages for both: Cannot delete ipvsvr.dll: It is being used by another person or program. Close any programs that might be using the file and try again. I successfully did next two steps you suggested – Updating Java and using ATF Cleaner – but have not put any anti-Virus stuff on as of yet. I'll limit my online viewing and patch my computer up later once it's been cleaned of the nasties. :) Anyways, I appreciate the reply, and hope this information helps.
Oops, forgot about F-Secure. Ran it, and it popped up one count of spyware – a tracking cookie. Disinfected it. Please download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Double click on SDFix.exe. It should automatically extract a folder called SDFix to your system drive (usually C:\). Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the SDFix folder and double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y and press Enter to begin the script.
  • It will start cleaning your PC and then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any key to restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer than normal to restart as the fixtool will be removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished.
  • Press any key to end the script and to load your desktop icons.
  • A text file should automatically open, so please copy the contents and post them here. We also need you to post a new HijackThis log
Dave
