It seems weird. Almost every time I go to eBay and my yahoo account, I will see ads. But they generally don't show up when I visit other websites.

I have set Windows pop-up blocker. I have tried spybot and ad-aware. They have been updated before I scanned. Every time I got bunches bad objects. Delete and restart computer. Those ad pages show up again. I am asking help here.

The following is my scan log.

Hello zxu713, welcome to the TC.

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals and extract it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Download KillBox and extract it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Download FixVundo.reg and save it to your desktop. Do not run this now as we will use it later.

Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Double-click on procexp.exe which is the Process Explorer that we downloaded earlier.

In the top section of the Process Explorer screen double-click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of utilcom.dll and click on the kill button. If you see any files listed that are the same name but end with .bak or .ini or .dat are the name in reverse, you can kill those as well. Example: moclitu.bak
moclitu.ini
moclitu.dat.

After you have killed all of the instances of the DLL under winlogon click on the OK button.

Now double-click on explorer.exe, select the Threads tab, and again click once on each instance of the DLL you determined to be part of the infection. Once they are highlighted click on the Kill button like you did before. If you have disabled the BHO (O2) in some manner, you will not find this dll listed in this step and can move on.

When this is done, click on the OK button again.

Now run HijackThis again, close all windows, and press the Scan button.
Place a check next to each of these entries.

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\utilcom.dll

O15 - Trusted Zone: http://free.aol.com

O20 - Winlogon Notify: utilcom - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\utilcom.dll

Once all the entries are checked, press the Fix button and then exit HijackThis.

Now double-click on the FixVundo.reg file that you downloaded earlier and allow it to merge the information.

Double-click on Killbox.exe that you downloaded and extracted earlier. Select the delete on reboot option. Then enter the full path to the DLL that is part of this infection into the Full path of file to delete field. In our example symptoms the full path of the file would be:

C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\utilcom.dll

Click the red circle with the white X and select Yes to the delete prompt but NO to reboot now. Then add the c:\windows\system32\scvhost.exe file if it exists and press the red circle with the white X and select Yes to the delete prompt and then Yes to reboot now.

"copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Thank you very much for your help!

I have done the jobs that you instructed. The next log file is listed below. I already tried openning IE and visiting eBay and Yahoo. No problems now.

Pls check my log file and see what else I should do. Again, thank you very much!

Sorry I missed you have TeaTimer running

Open Spybot S&D, click Mode>Advanced>Tools>Resident and remove the check from the Tea Timer box. You can reinstate it later but we don't want it interfering with what we need to do. Reboot when done in Safe Mode

O2 - BHO: MSEvents Object - {827DC836-DD9F-4A68-A602-5812EB50A834} - C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\utilcom.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

All right. Done. I didn't see any unusual situation after restarting.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
Thank you so much for your helps! I will follow your instructions to download and install those antispy software. I always use MS firewall. Is it powerful enough? Our university does provide free antivirus software. Generally I just visit those "good" websites, and I never opened unrecognized emails. I really don't know how those thing came to my computer this time… Anyway, they are gone! Great jobs! Keep going. A lot of people need your professional helps.

I always use MS firewall. Is it powerful enough?

As far as I know, it only checks incoming and not outgoing. I use Sygate myself. The main thing is to keep everything updated.

Great job

You're more then welcome.
