Phil This did not work. I made sure to "show hidden files" and un-checked "hide system files" too. Everyone of them comes back saying "not found on system". What do you make of this? Donna

Hi Donna, I have not seen a HJT log since 8/22/2005. I need to see a HJT log. You posted 1/2 of the log today, please post the rest of the log. I would appreciate it if you would post as much information about the exact issues your are experiencing including any error messages word for word. Sorry Phil-I tend to get in a hurry as I'm not able to keep the browser open for more than 2 minutes. The browser window just changes to "page not available".

Hello Donna, For starters, I have no idea what is causing these issues. I do need to know, word for word, exactly what error messages you are receiving. You have said you are receiving all three of these.
page can't be found
page cannot be displayed
page not available

Please start with these instruction and once you have completed them, let me know if there has been any change in the computers performance.

1) I need to know the EXACT error message you are gettting, word for word. If you are receiving more than one error message, post all of them for me.

2) Please check with your ISP and make sure both of these proxy servers are valid for your server:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyServer = http=proxy-server:8080;https=proxy-server:8080
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings,ProxyOverride = 127.0.0.1;ams-server*;localhost

3) Please make me aware if you tried tried both of these IE repairs.
Method 1: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

From the Start menu, select Run.
In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space between sfc and /scannow)
Select the OK button.
Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.
Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.
Method 2: Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.
Click the Search button.
In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

5) Let's clean more junk out of this HJT log, the stuff will be put back if you ever visit the site again:

6) Turn off winpatrol: right click the running icon, and exit.

7) Open HijackThis and choose "Do a system scan only" then check the box in front of these line items:
(You can leave any you absolutely must have, remember they will be put back if you visit the site)

Close all programs but HJT and all browser windows, then click on "Fix Checked"

There are just so many things that can cause an error message, that is why it is so important to start with the exact error message first.
