removal of cws and annoying pop ups

I have used xoftspy to try and get rid of this, I also have spybot and have tried cwshredder too, but none of these can remove it permanently. For quite a while now I have actually stopped using IE all together and just use firefox, though I am still getting annoying pop ups and there are rundll32.exe in the task manager. I know these are connected to the pop ups as every time I close them the pop ups stop, but they eventually restart themselves.
Any help to get rid of these things and anything else you notice that might be causing problems would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.

Hello ezekiel6,welcome to the forum.

Important: Do this before any fix.

Please put your HijackThis in it's own folder, (I create a new folder in C:\ named HJT).
You can do a Right Click on any open area on the desktop, New> Folder, then rename the folder HJT.

Go to where your HijackThis is and Right Click on HijackThis.exe, select Cut, then open the new folder you just created (HJT) Right Click in the folder and select paste.

The reason we do this is Hijackthis creates backup files just in case you'd need to restore one and we'll be cleaning out the temp files.

After the above:

Download CWShredder from my signature below. Unzip it on the desktop.
Open CWShredder and with ALL other windows closed, click fix.

Go here and run at least one of the online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

TrendMicro HouseCall
eTrust AntiVirus Web Scanner
Panda ActiveScan
Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done.

Next:

Even if you've already run these, make SURE they're up-to-date and run per instructions.

Make sure you have the up-to-date versions of Spybot V 1.4 and Ad-aware SE Build 1.06 . All are free and available below.

Download Spybot, install and update. Then download Ad-aware, install, and update.

Spybot:

Install the program and launch it.

Go to Start > Programs >Spybot > Search & Destroy and choose Spybot S&D

Close ALL windows except Spybot S&D
Click the button to "Search for Updates" and download and install the Updates.
Next click the button "Check for Problems"
When Spybot is complete, it will be showing "RED" (RED) entries "BLACK" entries and "GREEN" (GREEN) entries in the window
Put a check mark beside the RED (RED) entries ONLY.
Choose "Fix Selected Problems" and allow Spybot to fix the RED (RED) entries.

Ad-Aware FULL SCAN:

Install the program and launch it.

First in the main window look in the bottom right corner and click on Check for updates now then click Connect and download the latest reference files.

From main window :Click Start then under Select a scan Mode check Perform full system scan.
Next deselect Search for negligible risk entries.
Now to scan just click the Next button.

When the scan is finished mark everything for removal and get rid of it.(Right-click the window and choose select all from the drop down menu and click Next)

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I am having a huge problem right now with ie. I assume that as that is where the problem is coming from that I should open ie to use one of the virus scanners you linked me to? (firefox is what I use now) Every time I try this I keep getting an error saying that the active-X plugins couldn't be loaded and the page failed, I have enabled all active-x settings in the ie options but it still will not load the active -x plugins so I can't check for these viruses. What do I need to do so that the plugins can be loaded? Cheers.
okay after doing those steps here is the second hi jack this log.
In regards to what my computer is doing, I get pop ups appearing on my computer periodically even with no browser open. In the task manager there is a rundll32.exe that is connected to it as everytime I close it the pop ups stop but they eventually find a way to restart themselves. This is very annoying as it interrupts my work flow, I work in animation. Also when certain applications are open the pop ups force them to minimise interrupting what I am doing.

Cheers.

TeaTimer will stop the fix, so you need to disable it.

Open Spybot S&D, click Mode>Advanced>Tools>Resident and remove the check from the Tea Timer box. You can reinstate it later but we don't want it interfering with what we need to do. Reboot when done.

Messenger plus is full of spyware and adware if you installed it and did not choose the option not to load advertising support.

Restart in Safe Mode:
Restart your computer.

Press F8 after the Power-On Self Test (POST) is done. If the Windows Advanced Options Menu does not appear, try restarting and then pressing F8 several times after the POST screen.
Choose the Safe Mode option from the Windows Advanced Options Menu then press Enter.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Open C:\Windows\Prefetch\ Delete ALL files in this folder.

Do this also if these Temp Folders are part of your OS.

Also in safe mode navigate to the C:\Windows\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Next navigate to the C:\Documents and Settings\(EVERY LISTED USER)\Local Settings\Temp folder. Open the Temp folder and go to Edit > Select All then Edit > Delete to delete the entire contents of the Temp folder.

Finally go to Control Panel > Internet Options. On the General tab under "Temporary Internet Files" Click "Delete Files". Put a check by "Delete Offline Content" and click OK. Click on the Programs tab then click the "Reset Web Settings" button. Click Apply then OK.

Empty the Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Here is the latest HighJackThis log after those steps. Duriing the process of deleting the contents of the temp folder in windows, there was one file that I kept getting an error on
"Cannot Delete 492: Access denied" this was in the folder C:\WINDOWS\Temp\hsperfdata_SYSTEM. Just thought I would mention that incase it was important.
So far for the behaviour of my computer, I have checked in the task manager and there is only one instance of rundll32.exe running and I have now been on the internet for about 10 mins and not experienced any pop ups, I should have by now if the problem was still there.

Cheers.

is the folder that couldn't be deleted problematic? I tried the disk cleanup, that didn't remove it. The problem that I had before has been fixed. I am extremely grateful to you for helping me out with that. It's so good to have all those pop ups gone. cheers.
Hi, here's the latest HJT log, having no problems with the computer just now, running fine, and no pop ups.

Cheers.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
