Hi, I'm encountering popups on a regular basis (such as Winfixer, errordetect, etc.) on one of my computers. They seem to occur pretty much all the time, even when I'm not surfing the web. I have done a scan with Pandascan, Symantec, and Ad-aware SE, but still encounter the pop ups after cleaning what I could. I also seem to notice a file called Rundll32.exe (or run32dll.exe) that starts upon reboot (I ended the process in case, but don't know how to delete it), and am worried about other potential problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here's my Hi-Jack Log:

Rename:

C:\HiJackThis\HijackThis.exe

To:

C:\HiJackThis\look.exe

Reboot. Run it and post a new log into this thread.

I believe you have the infection type that hides from HijackThis!

This process should make anything hidden come to light where we may deal with it directly.
:)
Thanks for the quick reply. I renamed HiJackThis to look.exe, rebooted, and reran it. Looks like the infections popped up like you said they would. On another note, hijackthis used to say something about 'internet hijacked by webhancer' but it went away after I ran Ad-Aware SE and removed it.

Anyway, here's the log:

Looks like you have a "Look2Me" infection and a "Winfixer".

We'll do the "Look2Me" first.

Please download Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to your desktop.
  • Close all windows before continuing.
  • Double-click Look2Me-Destroyer.exe to run it.
  • Put a check next to Run this program as a task .
  • You will receive a message saying Look2Me-Destroyer will close and re-open in approximately 10 seconds. Click OK
  • When Look2Me-Destroyer re-opens, click the Scan for L2M button , your desktop icons will disappear, this is normal.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove L2M button .
  • You will receive a Done Scanning message, click OK .
  • When completed, you will receive this message: Done removing infected files! Look2Me-Destroyer will now shutdown your computer, click OK .
  • Your computer will then shutdown.
  • Turn your computer back on.
  • Please post the contents of C:\Look2Me-Destroyer.txt and a new HiJackThis log.
If you receive a message from your firewall about this program accessing the internet please allow it.

If you receive a runtime error '339'. please download MSWINSCK.OCX from the link below and place it in your D:\Windows\System32. Directory

MSWINSCK.OCX
Seems to be an improvement already.

Here's the Look2Me-Destroyer log:

Performing Repairs to the registry.
Done!
Alright, we have another method of removal.

If this fails, we still have another avenue of attack.
:)

Download combofix.exe from the link below:

Combofix.exe

Save it to your desktop. <— VERY IMPORTANT!!!

Go to Start –> Run and copy/paste in the following:

"%userprofile%\desktop\combofix.exe" /v wvuro ymikjjlu

Then hit or click OK

When finished, it will produce a log for you.

Post that log in your next reply, along with a new HijackThis! log.

:)

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall
That seemed to do the trick, computer seems to be running fine too. On another note, I used to get errors that I think were related to rundll32 registry values being modified or removed. Is there a way to check if my computer is fine in this regard?

The log looks good.

I imagine the rundll errors you have been getting were related to the infections.

If you get more errors, post again, and we'll see what we can do.

I know of no method of checking if all is well in this regard.

Thank you for choosing TomCoyote for your malware removal solutions.
