I went to log in as administrator today and I got a message that the user accout was corrupt or missing and a temorary profile was being created. The administrator forlder in documents and settings folder was renamed to administrator.bak.
Microsoft knowlegebase recommends creating a new profile and then logging in with a 3rd profile to copy the files from the .bak profile to the new profile. How do I go about creating a new administrator profile that has all the rights as the original administrator profile?
hmm.. have you tried that..? Making a new account and set it up as admin..?
I am not sure if this will fix the problem but one thing you might want to do anyway is run SFC. (system file checker) You will need your windows installation cd or an image of it on a drive. Click start/run/type command and hit enter. At the prompt type SFC /scannow .. this will take a bit to complete.
After thats done.. regaurdless if it fixes your problem. Download Hiajck this here and then scan but do not fix anything yet. Save the scan to a log then copy and paste the results of it into a new thread in The "hijack this logs and problems" forum
thanks for the reply, I have gone ahead and created an new admin account. It would appear that something damaged the index file that in turn damage the profile. I scanned for spyware and the like with all the normal stuff as I'm real familiar with most programs except hijackthis but there was nothing new in it from the last time I used it when I had a clean pc.
