i have this problem with my computer, i go to do a system restore cause my computers been acting gay all of a sudden and it comes up with something thats telling me i dont have the permission and i need to contact the system adminstrator and i am the system admnistrator. there is no tab that i can go to on system properties and fix this, its not in the registry either. any help?
hmm.. well..keep in mind that system restore is not a utility, persay. You really should only use it as a last ditch effort. First, to rule out a spyware/malware issue, Download the latest version of Hijack This here. Then scan but do not fix anything yet. Save the scan to a log then come back here and post the results in the "hijack this logs and problems" forum in a new thread.
Hello, I am having a similiar problem. When I try to to a system restore, the window comes up blank. The system that I am trying to repair was bogged down with major viruses and parasites. I've used programs such as Avast home edition, AVG, Spybot S&D, CWShredder, Ad-Aware and I use Zone Alarm firewall. These programs have removed the majority but there are still some left and I think that some of the virus's damaged a lot of files. Just to give you an idea of what was in there (there was ALOT). Favorite Man, Hotbar, ISTbar, VX2, Aurora, Gator, Double Click, Search Assistant, My Way, Hunt Bar, SideFind, xxxToolbar, IEAccess/HTMLDialer, Browser Aid, Flashenhancer and much more. Do you have any suggestions on how I can get the system restore back? Thank you for your time.
I am having the same problem as described with system restore. I have checked all other possibilites and have no idea why it has been disable by group policy. I am running XP home which does not have a group policy editor on the mmc available snap-ins. I have tried and tried (7 hours now) and cant fix the problem whatsoever.

My pc is not running correctly because of this. I cant access my computer (the flashlight seraching for the items is displayed), the recent list of visited websites (the drop down list in i.e. won't load) and I cant type a web address and press enter (nothing happens).

Apart from that my pc would appear to be working normally. Short of uninstalling xp and losing all my photos and files I don't know what to do. Can you help?

Thanks

Kenny

p.s. it said do not post a hijackthis log file unless requested, but in the posts previous to this it was requested to make sure there were no rogue things in my system, so i have posted my log. Hoep that is ok.
