Hi!

I have scanned my computer with AdAware and McAfee Virus Scan, rebooted and scanned with AdAware.

My computer seems slow and a toolbar has appeared. Also suspect there may be programmes running in the background or something that I cant see!

Not very good with all this IT stuff - and would really appreciate some advice on what I should delete/do next!

Scan Log pasted below!

Thanks -
Scottie

Step #1

Please download and run Spybot 1.4 & AdAware SE Then follow the instructions in the link below to run.

Spybot & Adaware Tutorial

Step # 2

Then do a virus scan here >>> Trend Micro

Reboot and post a new HiJackThis log.
Hi!

I have downloaded and run Spybot S&D - didnt find anything. Rebooted anyway.

Ran Ad-Aware, with the latest definitions, and settings per tutorial. Deleted everything it found. Then rebooted again.

Scanned with TrendMicro - it didint find anything. Rebooted again.

Ran Spychecker and have saved the log, which I have pasted below. I still have a toolbar I dont want in my Internet Explorer - but suspect that I should delete this as part of Spychecker scan!

Can you advise what I should delete please? Advice is greatly appreciated (since I am not very computer literate, beyond the basics!!!).

Many thanks -

Scottie

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
Hi!

Firstly - thanks for all of your help so far!

I have done as requested… downloaded and run ewido in safe mode. I think 39 items were deleted.

Below is the logfile from ewido scan, followed by latest log from HiJack This. Advice on what I am able to delete etc. would be ver much appreciated - since I am not great on the ICT front!!!!!!

Hi! Seems to be running much better thanks! Unwanted toolbar has disappeared and generally all seems pretty much as good as when got the PC! I have McAfee Virus Scan and Personal Firewall installed on PC - thought they should have prevented this sort of thing? Or am I being naive? Dont understand how I managed to get 'infected' or whatever the right term is! Also, am on broadband and was of the impression this sort of thing shouldnt happen on broadband? As I have mentioned before - I am not the best at the technology thing! Can use a pc - word, internet etc - but dont understand much more! What can I do to protect myself/prevent this sort of thing from happening again? Thanks for all of your advice and support - would have been totally lost without your help!! Scottie
Glad I could help

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.
