I did use AVG for a long time but experienced problems updating and the I couldn't get the new version to load. I switched to Avast about three weeks ago. It caught a Win32: Trojano- 1546 and one with the Win32: Kuang2 the other day.

I think I cleaned everything but want to make sure. I feel really stupid asking these questions. My system seems to be running fine. The only problem I have is- if I load iTunes (this only happens after my machine has been on for a while), the process can't be stopped, and I experience system hangs that last from 2-5 minutes. Once I reboot this goes away.

Spybot 1.4, Ad-Aware SE, and Spyware Doctor all have clean results. I also use SpywareBlaster, ZoneAlarm, and WinPatrol. Cleaners used are CCleaner, CleanUp4, and RegSeeker.

Someone advised me to post here because of the CounterSpy results. I've included those, along with the MWAV, and Ewido results. TrendMicro and Panda show no Viruses but Panda has been detecting exactsearch (with no exact location). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank You,
Faith

Ok, thanks for the information. I am not too concered with the MWav or CounterSpy results. Ewido scanned clean, so those others are probably ok. We can clean up the 2 R0's. Please run HijackThis and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries:
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

Close all browser and other windows except for HijackThis, and click "Fix Checked" to have HijackThis fix the entries you checked. Reboot your computer and post a new HJT log.
Here you go-

Thanks, that is what I thought. It's running fine. The iTunes lock up hasn't happened the last two times I have used it. The only issues I still have are- -It locked up when I was turning it off this morning. This has happened a couple times in the past. -I'm using DiskeeperLite for defraging and it has only been able to defrag 99% for the past week. -My CPU Usage has been spiking between 2% to 100% (it looks like a heart monitor  )
Well, you have done a pretty good job on running a variety of scans, so it would seem that whatever the issue, it is not related to malware. As for Diskkeeper, I am not familiar with that product, but does the regular Windows scanner work? If you click on Start–>Run–>eventvwr.msc, then click OK and your event viewer should come up. Check the Application and System logs around the tiime you shut down and see if there are any errors. When your CPU usage spikes, use the Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc), click on the Processes tab, then click on the CPU column header twice to make it sort by the process using the most memory and report back what is using up the CPU at that time.
I know what it is. The SpywareDoctor and the CounterSpy both have real time protection. I'll disable the CounterSpy protection and see how it runs. I have heard of that before. In the Event Viewer/ Application I had this error this morning- The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal processing. HRESULT was 80070005 from line 44 of d:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\events\tier1\eventsystemobj.cpp. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.
I'm running the beta CounterSpy and for some reason it will not disable the Active Protection, I will have to report that. I disabled Spyware Doctor OnGuard Protection and it went from 35,000 k to 1,508 k. It only spikes to 100% when I open the Task Manager and hasn't spiked over 11%. That is much better.

Yes, it replaces the XP defragmentor.

You're very welcome. Below I have included a number of recommendations for how to protect your computer in order to prevent future malware infections. Please take these recommendations seriously; these few simple steps can stave off the vast majority of spyware problems. As happy as we are to help you, for your sake we would rather not have repeat customers. :P
  • On a regular basis, please navigate to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and download all the "critical updates" for Windows, including the latest version of Internet Explorer. This can patch many of the security holes through which attackers can gain access to your computer.
  • In order to protect yourself against spyware, you should consider installing and running the following free programs:
    • Ad-Aware SE. A tutorial on using Ad-Aware to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. You have this installed currently. Please keep it updated and run it on a regular basis.
    • Spybot-Search & Destroy. A tutorial on using Spybot to remove spyware from your computer may be found here. Please also remember to enable Spybot's "Immunize" and "TeaTimer" features. You have this installed currently. Please keep it updated and run it on a regular basis.
    • SpywareBlaster. A tutorial on using SpywareBlaster to prevent spyware from ever installing on your computer may be found here.
    • SpywareGuard. A tutorial on using SpywareGuard for realtime protection against spyware and hijackers may be found here.
Keeping these programs up-to-date and running them regularly can prevent a great deal of spyware hassle.
  • Please consider using an alternate browser. Mozilla's Firefox browser is fantastic; it is much more secure than Internet Explorer, immune to almost all known browser hijackers, and also has the best built-in popup blocker (as an added benefit!) that I have ever seen. If you are interested, Firefox may be downloaded from here.
  • Also make sure to run your antivirus software regularly, and to keep it up-to-date.
Please also read Tony Klein's excellent article: How I got Infected in the First Place

Hopefully this should take care of your problems! Good luck. :D
