When I execute the install package I get an error stating that a file could not be copied. Recently I ran into this same problem when trying to install a new printer. any Idea's?
Make sure your copy of windows is legitimate. Visit the Windows Validation Site and choose one of the offers. You don't have to accept the offer if you don't want to but by choosing one you will be offered an ActiveX download, accept it. That is the validation tool which will check and make sure your copy of windows is legitimate (not pirated). Let us know what you find out.
It's not a pirated version I've had it on other computers and never had a problem and it has been running on this computer for over a year now without incident this is something new that is happening. I am running windows 2000. Also I tryed installing the operating system aon another computer and installing directx9 on it to see if it was the operating system and i had no problems. Thank you for finding the time to help me with this.
Illigitamate copies of windows are often missing the proper files to accomplish a complex software install so it is always worth checking on.

Since you have a Windows 2000 cd, put it in the cd drive then go to Start > Run and type sfc /scannow in the box (one space between the c and the /). This will scan all your system files and make sure they are intact.

If that doesn't take care of the problem then post a HijackThis log so we can see if there are any clues in it.

First, create a new folder on your desktop with a memorable name such as 'HijackThis'. Next, download HijackThis (scroll down the page to the 'HijackThis Quick Start' header) and unzip it to the new folder you just created. Make sure you unzip it, don't run it from the zip folder as it will not make proper backups if we need to fix anything.
Next, run HijackThis and click Do a system scan and save a logfile.
When the file opens, copy the entire contents by holding down Ctrl and pressing the 'A' key at the same time. Open a reply to this thread and paste the log into the reply by holding down the Ctrl button and 'V' at the same time.
Still can't install directx9 on my computer. Heres that file you asked for.

There are a few suspicious lines in that log. It looks like you may be infected with some malware. Update and do a full scan with Spybot and your antivirus. Reboot then post a fresh log in the HijackThis help forum. Post a link to this thread when you post the log there in case there is information here that they may find helpful. Once you are cleaned up please post to this thread letting us know if your problems with installing directx are resolved.
