Hi! Well…. I ended up in your forum because I'm seriously going crazy. My computer is constantly getting worms. We didn't have an anti virus, but we moved, and now we thought it would be a good idea to get one because we got one worm. We sent the computer to get fixed and they installed Norton Anti Virus 2005. That was like 2 months ago, and by now, the computer is getting infected more than ever! Norton would sometimes (and sometimes not) recognize two or three of them (usually the Nail thing) but is not able to get it fixed or deleted. We downloaded Spyware Blaster and NoAdware, but still no luck. I also get the annoying Aurora pop ups and MSN messenger won't work anymore, it would tell me that service is temporary unavailable, to try again later…. but that has been going on for two weeks now. I read somewhere to download the Ewido program from www.ewido.net and I did…. but it would take a really long time for it to scan, and then it would freeze the computer… impossible to work with it so I uninstalled it. I really hope you guys can help me…. I don't know what to do!

P.S…. Sorry parts of the log are in spanish… this computer is supposed to be in spanish… even when every program on it works in english… I guess that's why parts of the log are actually in english….

Hello Gaby, welcome to the forum.

You stated ewido would lock-up when you ran it. Please follow the instructions and we'll see how it goes.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.

Please download Nailfix from here:
http://www.noidea.us/easyfile/file.php?dow…050515010747824
Unzip it to the desktop but please do NOT run it yet.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on Nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly — this is normal.

Then please run Ewido, and run a full scan. Save the logfile from the scan.

Next please run HijackThis, click Scan, and check:

F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.

Log looks good :D :thumbup: How is it running any issues?

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Click Start> My Computer, select the Tools menu and then Folder Options, after the new window appears select the View tab…]
This time select the: Restore Defaults
Select: Apply, and click OK




If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Thank you very much! The computer seems to be running a little bit smoother, even though it stilll slow… but I think it's because I have way too much stuff on it. And one last question: Is it possible that the stuff I deleted somehow messed with the MSN Messenger? Because it's been like over a month that I can't sign in to the Messenger… it tells me that it was unable to start the session because the service is temporarily unavailable, try again later. And then it gives me what seems to be the number or the reference of the error: 800b0001…. any ideas?

Have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it?

Be sure to remember to install without advertising support.

I did it using Add/Remove Programs…. still no luck. Here's the message as it appears: Signing in to MSN Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. 800b0001

Ok, I visited the site but didn't download the program, instead I just followed the instructions they had about adding the .dlls that were missing by going to Run and typing ''cmd'' and then I opened MSN Messenger and now it works!!! It had some .dll files missing…. I should have deleted them while ''cleaning'' my computer! Thank you very very very much!!!
