At Wits End ..... Please Help

Hi -

Long story short version …. last weekend received a virus threat alert from Norton. Thought I deleted it. Went to upgrade my old version 2004 to Norton Internet Security and couldn't complete the install. Spent the next 7 days of phone with Symantec - 1st removing the virus. Second trying to remove adware (they had me install Spyware Doctor.) Third trying to get NIS to install - which it finally did. I have run Ad-Aware, Spyware Doctor, SpyBot over and over and keep getting data miners (tracking cookies) - DSO Exploit - Critical Errors, etc. Always delete and they always come back. I run on a cable modem and my computer is SOOOOO slow still. I do not know what else to do. I have spent so many hours trying to figure this out and know I am not going to be able to fix it alone. Any help is so very much appreciated!

Hello misstvlgirl and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

Step 1
HijackThis needs to be placed into a permanent folder as it creates backups of everything fixed and you won't want these on your desktop. Go to Start > My Computer > and double click on C:. Now right click an open area and click New > folder and change the folder name to HJT. Move HijackThis from the desktop into this new folder.


Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

Step 3
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.


Step 4
Please delete the following files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\ognplc.exe
c:\windows\system32\koyafs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\bghouc.exe

You'll need to search for these files with Explorer to delete. They may be in C:\WINDOWS\system32\ or C:\WINDOWS\
(Start > Search > All files and folders > More advanced options place a check in the first three boxes)

msdppp.exe
actccp32.exe


Step 5
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you get these programs:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

AVG AntiVirus - Free antivirus program if you currently are not using one.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.
