Hi theehound,

Open Notepad and copy the contents of the code box below into a notepad document.
regedit /e c:\find.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix\"

start notepad.exe c:\find.txt
exit

Save the notepad document to your desktop as 013.bat. Then double click it. Notepad will open with a log in it. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back here.
that I did but… I only got a message that the file find.txt couldnt be found and I was asked to create a new… wich then was empty either way. then what? :P
Hi theehound,

Open Notepad and copy the contents of the code box below into a notepad document.
regedit /e find.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix\"
find.txt

Save the notepad document to your desktop as find.bat. Then double click it. Notepad will open with a log in it. Copy the contents of that log and paste it back here.
Hi Notepad do NOT open when running the bat-file. Searching manually in the regedit for the string HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL there is found no "DefaultPrefix" found but only a "Prefixes" In my humble opinion the bat-file "doesnt work" because there is no "default prefix" to be found… So far so good…
Hi theehound,

Open Notepad and copy the contents of the code box below into a notepad document.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\DefaultPrefix\]
Save the notepad document to your desktop as 013.reg under All files. Then double click it and click yes at the confirmation screen.

Then, try running the batch file and post the log you get.

Also, post a fresh HijackThis log.
Hi again

Im not sure what you meant about the first log after running the reg-file. I didnt "get" any log.

Here is the new Highjackthis log and it looks like the 013 is gone!!!
Is this it?

Hi theehound,

Your log looks clean! Good work!!

Don't forget to re-hide all files and folders. To re-hide all files and folders:
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading deselect "Show hidden files and folders".
  • Check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
I still suggest that you run Windows Update and get all the securtiy patches to keep your PC secure.

To prevent re-infection in the future:
  • I suggest you download Spyware Blaster to prevent the installation of Spyware in the first place.
  • IE-Spyad puts over 5000 sites in your restricted zone so you'll be protected when you visit innocent-looking sites that aren't actually innocent at all and I suggest you download it.
  • Another excellent program I recommend is SpywareGuard. It provides a degree of real-time protection solution against spyware that is a great addition to SpywareBlaster's protection method.
  • I recommend that you read a thead titled So how do I get infected in the first place? by Tony Klein which informs you on how to tighten the security of your PC.
Take care,
TJ
