Hello Lisa and welcome to TomCoyote. :wavey:

The HijackThis progam is still being run from the Zip folder. To assist in moving this to the proper place, please download the self-extracting version from here. Save the file to your desktop.

Double click HijackThis_sfx.exe and select Unzip. When done click "OK".
Close the WinZip self Extractor window. You can now delete HijackThis_sfx.exe.

Now we'll get started on the cleanup process. :)

Download CCleaner to clean temp files from your computer.
  • Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
  • Select your language and click OK, then next.
  • Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
  • Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
  • Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
  • Click Options < Advanced and uncheck "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours".
  • Click Run Cleaner to run the program.
  • After it has completed it's process, click Exit.
Caution : It is not recommended to use the 'Issues' tab as it is known to find legitimate items.

Please download the trial version of Ewido security suite.

Install and Update Ewido:
  • Download and install Ewido security suite.
  • When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
  • Launch Ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop for it to double-click.
  • You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
    • On the left hand side of the main screen click update.
    • Click on Start Update.
    • The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the updates are installed, close the program.
Scanning With Ewido:
  • Reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter').
  • Launch Ewido again.
    • Click on scanner
    • Click on Complete System Scan and the scan will begin.
    • While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK
    • When it asks if you want to clean the first file, put a check in the lower left corner of the boxes that say "Perform action on all infections"and "Create encrypted backup" then choose clean and click OK.
    • Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
    • Click Save report.
    • Save the report.txt file to your desktop.
  • Now close ewido security suite.
Reboot the computer than navigate to C:\Program Files\HijackThis\ and double-click HijackThis.exe. Click "Do a system scan and save a logfile" then post the new log as a reply to this thread.

Did you download the Hijackthis file I asked you to? You still are using the old one from within a zipped folder. Get the new file as instructed in my previous post before beginning the fix instructions.

Step 1
We need to disable your Microsoft AntiSpyware Real-time Protection as it may interfere with the fixes that we need to make.
  • Open Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Click on Options, Settings.
  • In the left pane, click on Real-time Protection.
  • Under Startup Options uncheck Enable the Microsoft AntiSpyware Security Agents on startup (recommended).
  • Under Real-time spyware threat protection uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended).
  • After you uncheck these, click on the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware.
  • Right click on the Microsoft AntiSpyware icon on the taskbar and select Shutdown Microsoft AntiSpyware.
After the computer is clean, it is very important that you enable Real-time Protection again.

Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

F1 - win.ini: run=C:\WINDOWS\..\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\MSInfo\info32.exe C:\WINDOWS\..\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\MICROS~1\MSInfo\msinfo.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [zeauhkhch] C:\WINDOWS\System32\xbfulc.exe

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 3
Please set your computer to show all files.
  • Double-click My Computer.
  • Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
  • Click the View tab.
  • Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
  • Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
  • Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
You will need to reverse this process when all steps are done.

Step 4
Please delete the following file:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\xbfulc.exe

If you have any problem deleting these items, reboot into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and try again.

Step 5
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread. Also, post the contents of report.txt that you saved after running Ewido.
Please let us know of any complications you had and how the computer is behaving.
Hi - thank you for all of your help.
I tried to delete the xbfulc.exe file and did exactly what you said, but the file doesn't seem to be there. Maybe it was deleted when I did the Hijack This fix? Anyway, here are the logs.

New log appears clean. :) How is the computer working now? If everything is working well, I'll give you some recommendations to better protect it.
Thanks for all your help. My computer is better, but it is still having some issues. It takes several minutes to print something after I hit the print key, and that sort of thing. I may have to call someone to come take a look at it, I think I have done everything I can! Thanks.

Thanks.

That sounds like a problem better suited for posting in the Other Computer Problems Forum as I only clean the malware. Be sure to include a link to this thread so they can see that your computer is clean of malware.

————————————————————–

Here are my recommendations to help better secure the computer.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the System Restore tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
3. Click OK, and then click Yes.
4. Restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 2, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore', click 'OK'.

I suggest that you download these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer. Spyware Blaster runs silently in the background.
ie-spyad - Puts over 12,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - 'Safer' alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Here are two very good and free malware scanners:

Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
AdAware SE v1.06
Set-up Instructions for Spybot S&D and Adaware SE

If you have them already, check to make sure that they are the newest version.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read the following posts to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
