suddenly i cant run any programs on my computer
all three digit suffixes have been changed to .LNK
help is requested

thanks for the link - i am using XP on this computer the one tht's gone down is W2K is there a similar link for that?

You can use windows sfc (system file checker) You'd need your W2K CD to make this work.
Click Start> Run> type sfc /quiet Note the space.
(Note that there is a space between sfc and /quiet)

sfc /quiet - In Windows 2000 this sets Windows File Protection to replace any incorrect system files detected with the appropriate version from the dll cache without any user notification. This option has no effect in Windows XP.

many thanks for that suggestion but youdont detail the full path eg d:\ if the w2k disk is in d, or other alternative
