.exe Files Are Now .exe Document Files - Please Help! Like Dm965

Hi there!

From the description of dm695 it seems that I have the same or similar at least problem with him.
Initially, my desktop shortcuts had not recognized icons. When i was finding their exe target, which also had unrecognized icons, and trying to open it, i was receiving the known message as dm695.
Following some instructions i found to internet sites, i created the extensions LNK, EXE in folder options so, the icons obtained recognized form, but i still receive the same message when i try to open it (both shortcut and exe target).

I followed your link above and the results from scanning are

Then I selected automatic clean and ten minutes later I received the msg

But the problem remains! Every time I try to open a program (exe file) I receive the known msg

This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel.

Any ideas ?

Moreover, i would like to add and something else! When i try to execute a specific program, for instance the winamp application i receive the known message about associations. But, when i try to open a data file of this application (mp3 file), winamp opens normally and the music track sounds well. The same doesn?t happen with applications which don?t create and save data, as powerdvd for instance. These applications can not be executable, and every time i try to open them i receive the known msg.

Ok, I found it out. It had nothing to do with the viruses that the scanning detected and deleted. The solution for everyone who has a similar problem is the following:

The whole problem was associating with the corruption for some reason, of the registry of file association of extensions .exe & .lnk.
Since no .exe file was working i couldn?t even run the regedit.exe or the command prompt. So, i followed the directions of this link http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm which provides the registry file associations for exe and lnk extensions. Since no regedit.exe and command prompt runs, we open the task manager, select file and keeping pressed the ctrl button we select new task. In the command prompt window that opens we type regedit.exe, and the regedit runs. Then we select open and import, inserting the .reg files association for exe and lnk we have already downloaded. Then everything works normally.
