In the Safe mode I found mikarn.exe. Added abc to the file name and changed the file extension to abc. Doesn't seem to matter much, however, since this file just keeps recreating itself. Rebooted in normal mode and as you can see in the attached HJT log, it is still there. After chaning the file name&extension, I tried using killbox and it indicated that it could not delete the file. Before that I had tried to simple delete the file, which I did and then ran CCleaner and Cleanmgr. It still came back on the next reboot. Nasty file to get rid of.

I did find the priu.exe file and changed the file extension to old as suggested. That stayed in the updated HJT log below. When I rebooted to normal mode, I got a windows dialog box that wanted me to select a program to launch puri.old since it did not recognize it. The other choice offered was to reach out to the internet to find the program to launch it. I closed the dialog box.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Success!! Didn't come back as it had been doing. New HJT log attached.

System seems to be operating fine now. I no longer have the popups that had taken control of my system before.

Questions:
A few postings ago, I asked about the System Volume Information folder and you mentioned we would get to that later. Do we need to do anything here?

Anything else catch your eye in this log?

Thanks a bunch for your help.

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
