Have a couple of Trojan warnings that Nortons keeps coming up with. Have done online scans with both Trend and a trojan scan at windows security site and came up with nothing.
The ones that keep coming up are Firefox.exe, backdoor.sdbot these are automaticaly deleted and msupd5.exe repair failed also download.trojan and sysupd.dll delete failed.
System seems to be running ok at the moment with the exception of these messages. Have run adaware, spybot, cws shredder and have installed spyware blaster, spyware guard and zone alarm.

hello LOTL, could be flagging stuff in system restore archives, or harmless leftover from a previous problem or a false positive. One of the best features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a virus infects a computer with this operating system the virus may be accidentally backed up because of this feature. In order to completely remove a virus on these operating systems, you should disable System Restore before cleaning the system, then reenable it after the system is clean. Follow the instructions below to disable System Restore You must be logged in as an Administrator to do this. If you are not logged in as an Administrator, the System Restore tab will not be displayed. Turning off System Restore will clear out all previous restore points. To turn off Windows XP System Restore: NOTE: These instructions assume that you are using the default Windows XP Start Menu and have not changed to the Classic Start menu. To re-enable the default menu, right-click Start, click Properties, click Start menu (not Classic) and then click OK. 1. Click Start. 2. Right-click the My Computer icon, and then click Properties. 3. Click the System Restore tab. 4. Check "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" as shown in this illustration: 5. Click Apply. 6. When turning off System Restore, the existing restore points will be deleted. Click Yes to do this. 7. Click OK. 8. reboot (will delete possibly infected restore points) 9. Proceed with what you need to do; for example, virus removal. When you have finished, restart the computer and follow the instructions in the next section to turn on System Restore. To turn on Windows XP System Restore: 1. Click Start. 2. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties. 3. Click the System Restore tab. 4. Uncheck "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives." 5. Click Apply, and then click OK. (makes new clean restore points) 6.reboot now try scanning computer with antivirus software.
Thanks Shelf Life, I did go through the usual clean up procedures. Turned off system restore, booted into safe mode deleted all temp files for all users, scanned with adaware and spybot while in safe mode. disabled a few things in the startup via msconfig, and a few other verified nastys using HJT that i did a few searches on. You didnt happen to see anything out of the ordinary with the HJT log did you?
hello LOTL, yes, my bad– i see one thing that needs to go: we will use hjt and delete a file scan with HJT, put a checkmark beside the items below, close all windows and click fix checked. O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EC451387-A84F-6927-F054-C0EF30C6F27D} - (no file) O2 - BHO: (no name) - {EC451387-A84F-6927-F054-C0EF30C6F27D} - (no file) O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [sysmonnt] C:\WINDOWS\System32\sysmonnt ———————————– ok now delete just this file>>sysmonnt.exe, located here>>C:\WINDOWS\System32 if it gives you problems, reboot computer intop safe mode by tapping the f8 key at restart, chose safe mode from the options, once in safe mode find and delete. rescan post new hjt log………
