Hi, I thought I was cautious in my use of hijackthis but apparently I was not and now I cannot enter my computer. Upon reboot a message is displayed saying that explorer must now close, and when opening the "details" portion of the message it states an invalid page default as its problem causing explorer.exe not to run. Of course among these "details" are a bunch of computer lingo that I am unaware of. I do know that hijackthis has a backup component which saves anything you may delete in error. My problem is to get in there and open the program so that I can reinstall back those components. Can this be done? I tried opening in safe mode and that did not work. Have I pinned myself into a corner which spells out reformat or a reinstallation of windows? Please help as this is urgent! Thanks
Also in the "details" section it mentions stack dump with a whole slew of numbers. Is it possible for me to enter into DOS and fix this? Can anyone guide me before I concede defeat and reformat my hard drive?
Thank you for responded to my query I appreciate it. I am running Win 98SE. I am not sure about a system restore feature, but if I can use this can you suggest how I go about doing so? Thanks again
Try a scanreg /restore. Boot the system and just after the POST (Power On Self Test) hold down either the Ctrl or F8 key. This should give you the Microsoft Boot Menu. Choose "Command Prompt Only". Once you get the C:\> prompt, type in; scanreg /restore and pick a date ~prior~ to the problem starting. (You should have a choice of up to five dates.) This will replace your registry and the main windows boot files with backups. If this doesn't work, it indicates your paths have been lost or corrupted. (Usually c:\msdos.sys.)
LDTate, I must thank you sincerely for your help as that was the easiest, painless thing I have ever had to do with a computer. Everything seems to be a-ok right now. Unless something changes it looks like I'm done here. Again many thanks, Sincerely, acimino

We need to get rid of that 015 trusted zone.

Download this file to your desktop. Click HERE.

Right-click on the deldomains.inf file and select 'Install'

Once it is finished your Zones should be reset.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and/or IE/Spyads, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both afford. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and re-protect all items. For IE/Spyads, run the batch file and reinstall the protection

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I was able to follow your instructions, however there was nothing in my recycle bin to empty. Should I have placed the deldomains file in there?

I should also note that my computer is seemingly faster than it has been in little while. However I fear that it is not wholly up to its natural speed. I suggest this because I have "Trusted sites" in my internet security settings, when I usually have it set on "Internet". It has been like this for quite some time. I just figured it wasn't hurting anything so why bother. If you're able to help, I'm more than willing to continue to heed your advice. (Also of note, there are no sites in the trusted sites domain - but why is it habitually set there?)

(Also of note, there are no sites in the trusted sites domain - but why is it habitually set there?)

You can add trusted sites in there. Some programs will add restricted sites. You can bypass this by adding it to your trusted zone.

Get these programs if you don't have them.

Good Job

Log looks good :D  How is it running any issues?

If you dont have these three programs I would recommend that you get them. Spywareblaster, Spywareguard and IESPY AD. They will add 1000's of sites to your resticted zone and block some hijacks from happening. I also have a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Safe Surfing. :D
