Hi, I am having a terrible time with the ads345.com page always taking over when I want to go to a web site. It is usually accompanied by a site like [removed] I can't even use my web mail very easily because takes over when I try to read or compose emails. I think it's also interfering with some things I try to download. Adaware SE, SpyBot 1.3 and CWShredder will not get rid of it. Often I run scans and immediately the same problems are present (mostly CoolWebSearch and Midaddle). How do I get rid of these things for good, especially the ads345.com?
Here's my Hijackthis log:

The following have randomly named file names, and as such are normally malware, UNLESS you know what they are, and they are from a safe source, please check for removal.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [6Fo] C:\windows\6Fo.exe

Optional items to check with HijackThis.

Fix these if you or an administrator did set these manually or with a program such as Spybot S&D.
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions present
O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 3
Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the following items if found:

MidAddle
Windows ServeAd

Step 4
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Step 5
Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and delete the following files/folders:

C:\WINDOWS\mmups.exe << File only

C:\Program Files\Windows ServeAd\ << Whole Folder

Step 6
While still in Safe Mode please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files (Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Delete Files), be sure to also select delete all offline content.
Empty the Recycle Bin.

Step 7
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Thanks so much for helping me with this. I did everything you said but upon reboot in safe mode, there was no mmups.exe file or Windows ServeAd folder. Apparently, it looks like this process disabled my Comcast firewall. I am going to turn it back on. Also, I was wondering about rechecking the "hide protected operating system files". Can I do that now?
Thanks again!!! :)

Step 1
Open Task Manager (ctrl+alt+delete) and end task on the following:

Save.exe

Step 2
Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WhenUSave] C:\PROGRA~1\Save\Save.exe

Optional items to check with HijackThis for improved performance.
This installs the QuickTime System Tray icon. You can fix this with HJT, but you will also need to set it not to load in QuickTime itself to keep it from resetting itself: (1) Open Quick Time Player (2)Edit > Preferences > Quick Time Preferences (3)uncheck Quick Time System Tray icon on the Browser Plug-in Pane
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime

This is an application scheduler installed with RealOne Player. You can fix this with HJT, but you will also need to set it not to load in RealPlayer itself to keep it from resetting itself: (1) Start RealOne Player (2) Tools -> Preferences (3) Automatic services in the Categories pane (4) Uncheck all options and then OK
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot

Resource hog that launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. Some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it isn't required anyway.
O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE

With all other programs and browsers closed, click fix checked.

Step 3
Go to Add/Remove Programs and remove the following items if found:

SaveNow
Save
WhenU Search

Step 4
Please set your computer to show all files.

* Double-click My Computer.
* Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
* Click the View tab.
* Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
* Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
* Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
* Click Apply, and then click OK.

Step 5
Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter') and delete the following folder:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\Save << Whole Folder

Step 6
Reboot normally and scan with HijackThis. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.
Hi, I performed your 2nd set of instructions but 04-HKLM\…\run [TkBellExe] "C:\Program files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot keeps coming back even though all options are unchecked at Automatic sevices in the preferences of RealPlayer. Also, there was no C:\Program files\Save folder when I booted up in safe mode.
Thanks for sticking with me!

Try (1) Start RealOne Player (2) Tools -> Preferences (3) Automatic services in the Categories pane (4) Expand tab under Automatic services to show Automatic Update (5) Uncheck automatically download and install important updates.
This isn't anything bad but just unnecessary at startup.

The rest of your log looks clean. :) How is the computer running?
Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you get these programs:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

AVG AntiVirus - Free antivirus program if you currently are not using one.
ZoneAlarm - Free firewall program if you currently are not using one.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place"

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Everything is running great! Thank you very, very much. I have been struggling with this for over 6 months and I just stumbled upon the HiJackThis program while searching on Google for solutions. I am delighted that it worked out so well! I liked your suggestions for further downloads such as Spyblaster, SpyGuard and Firefox. I especially like Firefox. It seems to be faster than Internet Explorer. Thanks again for your help. You guys are great!!! :D
