[Resolved] adssite

All right, I've been looking for the past topics and trying to fix this whole adssite problem, which has…been occurring for the past…I don't know, let's say a week. And well, I did the whole AVG thing, spybot thing and etc. Although it happens less frequently, I just want to permanently get rid of it, so I don't have to deal with it again. So, any ideas on how to get rid of adssite?

Its fine. I know how you guys are busy with helping other people. :) So thanks again! Currently, my computer is fine with an exception of a couple of adssite popups here and there. Sometimes my firefox browser crashes, but other than that, I think its okay. I just want to get rid of these popups once and for all.

I suggest you do this:

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.


Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

There could also be a uninstaller:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\adssite-remove.exe or adssite-uninstall.
If so run the one that's listed.

Its not listed at all. I think I already removed it on add/remove programs in the past, but for some odd reason, there are still a couple of popups.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.


(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

Next:

Download ComboFix from Here to your Desktop.

**Note: In the event you already have Combofix, please delete it from your desktop and download this new version . It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

  • Close any open browsers and make sure you are disconnected from the net. Unplug the cable if need be before running combofix.
  • WARNING: IF you have not already done so Combofix will disconnect your machine from the Internet when it starts
  • Please do not re-connect your machine back to the Internet until Combofix has completely finished.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
When finished, it will produce a report for you.
Please post the "C:\ComboFix.txt" along with a new HijackThis log for further review

*If there is no internet connection when Combofix has completely finished then restart your computer to restore back the connections.

That scan shows nothing.

You need to update SunJava.
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6u2
    The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications.
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the [external image: Posted Image] icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on 6-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed

After the above:

Backup Your Registry with ERUNT
  • Please use the following link and scroll down to ERUNT and download it.
    http://aumha.org/freeware/freeware.php
  • For version with the Installer:
    Use the setup program to install ERUNT on your computer
  • For the zipped version:
    Unzip all the files into a folder of your choice.
Click Erunt.exe to backup your registry to the folder of your choice.

Note: to restore your registry, go to the folder and start ERDNT.exe




Click "Start"> "Run"> type in Regedit tap Enter Key

Make sure "My Computer" is highlighted

Click "Edit"> "Find"
Type in adssite tap Enter Key.
Right Click on the file if found and select "Delete"

Tap the "F3" Key to find the next entry of the file. Continue using the "F3" Key until it's finished searching.

Close Regedit.


Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

I found adssite when I did the registry editor, and every single time when I remove it, it comes back at the same spot. So far, after deleting the adssite from the editor thing, there hasn't been a popup yet.

So far there are no popups and everything is fine. When I did the whole registry editor again (even though you didn't ask to do it, I did it anyway!), I still found adssite on my computer. Blargh.

Did you try Right Clicking on the "activemovie thing" and select Export? This will export that to your desktop. Give it a name and Export it to your desktop. That should remove it from the registry. Now see if everything is running ok.
