I'm not sure what all you did while waiting, but everything bad is now gone.
Just one optional item that is a resource hog.

Open HijackThis, run a scan, then check the following:

Optional items to check with HijackThis for improved performance.
Resource hog that launches common MS Office components to help speed up the launch of Office programs. Some users claim there's no difference with or without it but it isn't required either way.

Just to be sure nothing is hiding, please click here to download mwavscan. Double-click it to run it, select all local drives, scan all files, press 'scan' and when it is completed, anything found will be displayed in the lower pane. Highlight it, CTRL C and paste it in your next reply.

Scan with Hijackthis and post the new log as a reply to this threa. Include the mwavscan log.
Hi Alan

No Idea what I did right in the meantime, but if it seems to be fixed, that's good by me!

HJT log attached and there were no errors from the MWAV scan - Thanks for finishing this off.

AdAware SE will remove the stubborn entry that you had problems with. I take it you must have been able to get it to run as the log is still clean. :)

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove bad files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected.)

1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
2. On the Performance tab, click File System, or press ALT+F.
3. On the Troubleshooting tab, put a check mark in the 'Turn Off System Restore' check box.
4. Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart the computer.
5. Repeat steps 1 - 3, this time clearing the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore'

Please delete your temporary files by deleting all files and folders that are in those folders (do not delete the temp folder itself) like for example
C:\WINDOWS\Temp\
C:\Temp\
C:\Documents and Settings\Every username\Local Settings\Temp\
Also delete your Temporary Internet Files (Start > Control Panel > Internet Options > Delete Files), be sure to also select delete all offline content.
Empty the Recycle Bin.

Now that everything is fixed, I suggest that you get these programs to help keep the computer clean:

Spyware Blaster - Blocks bad ActiveX items from installing on your computer.
SpywareGuard - Real-time protection from spyware installation attempts
ie-spyad - Puts over 8,000 bad URLs into your restricted sites for Internet Explorer.
Google Toolbar - Blocks many unwanted pop-ups in Internet Explorer.
Firefox - Safer alternative to the Internet Explorer web browser.

Update these regularly.

You may also want to read "How did I get infected in the first place" to learn how to better secure your computer.

Be sure to keep Windows and your Anti-virus updated.
Many thanks Alan for helping to close this log, have followed advice and run System restore, Ad-aware and downloaded the additional software. Appreciate your help in finishing this off - Cheers Gareth.
Your welcome. You and Dave did all of the work. I was just able to give the "all clean".
