Hi guys
Have been having problems this past week. Home Page has changed to Here4Search and nothing I do seems to solve the problem.

Norton Internet Security is my regular anti-virus etc, had not loaded additional anti-spyware - have since tried XoftSpy, Spybot and Adaware.

With Spybot, one problem does not go away - DSO Exploit?

Here is my latest Hijack This Log …. all help really appreciated;

Hello gyates, and welcome to the TomCoyote Forums. I will be helping you get your system cleaned up and protected. I am currently reviewing your HiJackThis log and will post a suggested fix shortly. Thank you for your patience. Regards, Dave
Hello gyates,

First, you have a CoolWebSearch parasite. Please download and run
CWShredder. Make sure that all browser windows are closed with the exception of Cwshredder and choose FIX. Then REBOOT.

I noticed you have Spyware Vanisher. I would recommend removing it. It is
considered a rogue Spyware program and reports false positives to work as
a goad to purchase. More information can be found here:
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

To uninstall:
Click Start > Control Panel > Double Click Add/Remove Programs and remove
Spyware Vanisher.

Now you can run HiJackThis. Check the boxes next to these items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=574
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=574
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\5626K1~1.DLL
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NVRotateSysTray] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsysrot.dll,Enable
O16 - DPF: {10003000-1000-0000-1000-000000000000} - ms-its:mhtml:file://C:\foo.mht!http://vparivalka.com/G7/chm10.chm::/ieloader.exe
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: obrbd4clgh5n.dll.dll.dll

Optional fix if you are uninstalling Spyware Vanisher:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Vanisher] c:\spywarevanisher-free\FreeScanner.exe -FastScan

Now close all browser and explorer windows, and tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.

Now boot the computer into safe mode:
*Restart the computer.
*As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*Press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer delete this file if present:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsysrot.dll > file

Delete this folder if still present and you are removing Spyware Vanisher:

c:\spywarevanisher-free\ > folder

Now you can reboot and post a new HJT log for review.

Also, the DSO exploit found with Spybot is not a problem and it is something that will go away when Spybot has an upgrade.
Hi IndiGenus

Thanks for your time to look at my Log.

- CWShredder removed a CWSearch parasite.

- I could not find Spyware Vanisher in the Add/Remove Programs.

- Fix checked the HJT items you mentioned - including Spyware Vanisher.

- Tried to boot into Safe mode but no matter how many times I tapped F8, the advanced options mode would not appear.

- Tried to delete nvsysrot.dll, but was unable. "Access is Denied. Make sure disk not full or write-protected and that file is not in use"

- Have now successfully got my Internet Home Page back to one I want - Here4Search seems to be gone.

Second Log attached below - thanks again for your help with this.

Gareth.

Hello Gareth,

Sorry for the delay.

Looks like we have some stubborn spyware here. Please follow these steps exactly as I advise. I would recommend printing these instructions out and checking off each item as you go.

First, please download this free tool here: Killbox
We will be using this later in the fix.

Next, run HJT again and check the boxes next to these items:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=574
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=574
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://win-eto.com/sp.htm?id=574
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page_bak = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=574
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NVRotateSysTray] rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsysrot.dll,Enable
O16 - DPF: {386A771C-E96A-421F-8BA7-32F1B706892F} (Installer Class) - http://www.xxxtoolbar.com/ist/softwares/v4…006_regular.cab
O20 - AppInit_DLLs: 4uh6k4iz37dk1hll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

Now close all browser and explorer windows (the only thing open should be HijackThis), and tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Now put a tick by Delete on Reboot. In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste the following line then click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file. It will ask for confimation to delete the file on next reboot. Click Yes. It will then ask if you want to reboot now. Click Yes.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\nvsysrot.dll

I'm suspuscious of this HJT entry and file:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dnscleaner] C:\WINDOWS\dnscleaner.exe
C:\WINDOWS\dnscleaner.exe > file

Please upload this file to Kapersky Online File Scanner here: http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus
It will give you a report. Please post that back here.

Post a new HJT log for review.

Regards,

Dave
Hi Dave

Thanks again for the time taken to review the log - here goes.

nvsysrot.dll seems to have disappeared at last.

dnscleaner.exe is clean according to Kapersky:

You're clean!

Scanned file: dnscleaner.exe

dnscleaner.exe - OK

Hi Gareth, Your log is almost clean except for one stubborn item. I'm consulting the experts on it and will get back to you shortly. How are things running? Regards, Dave
Hi Gareth,

Let's try running HJT in safe mode this time to see if we can get that last item cleaned up.

*Restart the computer.
*As soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*Press Enter.

Run HiJackThis. Check the box next to this item:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: cshsue38tseu8sll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

Now close all browser and explorer windows, and tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

Reboot and post a new HJT log for review.

Regards,

Dave
Hi Dave

All done as you suggested …. HJT through safe mode. Am not sure it has worked though? Once again, I appreciate your help.

Hi Gareth, We still have that stubborn .dll file to deal with. Please make sure you have the very latest version of Ad-Aware. It should be at Ad-aware SE 1.05. Also make sure it's updated by clicking on the "Check for udates now" link in the main screen. Press the "Start" button, uncheck "Scan for negligible risk entries", select "Perform full system scan" and press "Next". Let Ad-aware remove anything it finds. Ad-Aware will also delete some files on reboot. REBOOT your machine and run Ad-aware again. Now reboot and post a new log for review. Thanks for being patient, we'll get you clean soon. Regards, Dave
Hi again Gareth,

Just a follow up on my last post after re-scanning your log. Have HJT fix these items also. Make sure all windows except HJT are closed when doing the fix.

I would also recommend uninstalling Limewire. Limewire is a P2P program
that could invite malware into your system.

Click Start > Control Panel > Double Click Add/Remove Programs: Remove Limewire

Reboot and post a new HJT log.

Regards,

Dave
Hi Dave;

Downloaded the new Ad-aware but each time I run it, I receive a message saying my system is shutting down - something to do with the NT Authority and a Remote Procedure Call (RPC) service terminated unexpectedly. System retstarts, mothing I can do to interrupt it.

Removed Ad-aware, re-installed but same problem occurred.

Updated my Norton virus protection, ran a virus scan which did not finish as I received a Blue Screen - had only heard about this "Blue Screen of Death" through a chat with a mate a while back but thought nothing of it. Now I am not so sure!!

Ran HJT and fixed the 2 016 issues you highlighted.

Removed Limewire.

Thanks a lot for your time.

Hello Gareth,

Let's try a couple of things as I suspect the Sasser Worm may be at work here.

First, please do an online virus scan with at least one of these scanners, both if possible.

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/co…n_principal.htm

Make sure that you choose "fix" or "clean".

Note anything that cannot be fixed.

Boot into safe mode and try running Adaware SE. Let it fix anything it finds.

Reboot and post a new HJT log.

Thanks,

Dave
