Think I'm Okay Now, But Still Slower Than Usual

I deleted the defragfat39 entry in HJT and it immmediately seemed to improve a processing logjam, but I'm still rather slow. I'm running a celeron 800 in Win2k so I don't expect lightning performance anymore, but maybe it can be better. There are still some entries I don't recognize here. Also, do I need the quicken dlls loaded at startup like this? Anyway, here's the log:

Welcome to the forum.

Please move HJT into its own permanent folder so backups can be made in case of a mistake.

Please confirm that you have this program on the system:
WebPhone
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [] C:\PROGRA~1\WebPhone\webphone.exe -auto

These are all not needed at startup.
HJT makes backups so you can always restore them, what you fix is up to you.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Synchronization Manager] mobsync.exe /logon

When is the last time you ran scandisk and defrag??

Clean out temporary and TIF files. Go to Start > Run and type in the box: cleanmgr. Let it scan your system for files to remove. Make sure these 3 are checked and then press *ok* to remove:

Temporary Files
Temporary Internet Files
Recycle Bin

Thanks so much. I have hjt in a folder on c and do have webphone on the computer and run it from the quicklaunch.

I haven't run scandisk for some time but regularly clean out the temp files. However, I got interrupted a while ago as I was about to defrag and the program had suggested it was scrambled like eggs and should be done. So that will be next.

I will unload a bunch of those programs running in the background - would you call them tsr's? As suggested in CHAT, I'm a little leary of just removing things I know are associated with programs I run after a few "experiments" that went as bad as Victor Frankenstein's!

I won't comment on how it's running until after the defrag, which I guess is the main culprit.

thanks so much!

You never answered this?????

Just have HJT fix this one:

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

If you want to know what you're disabling, just use/enter the .exe file at this site for info:

http://www.sysinfo.org/startuplist.php

Examples:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [PrinTray] C:\WINNT\system32\spool\DRIVERS\W32X86\2\printray.exe

O4 - Startup: ADSL Diagnostic Tools.LNK = C:\WINNT\system32\mapiicon.exe

Now if you want a good defrag program, check this one out - it's a big download - but worth it.
