LONG DELAY AFTER RIGHT-CLICKING?
If your computer just sits there regurgitating after you right-click a file or item, sometimes as long as 60 seconds, here's how you might fix it:
(Always, ALWAYS, back up your computer before tweaking into unexplored territory.)
D/L the freeware shell extension viewer at http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html and install it.
Open shexview.exe and line up all entries by their type by clicking TYPE at the top. Look under the column, COMPANY, and see that the Microsft Corporation items are now all together.
Go to all *NON*-Microsoft entries and disable each, one by one. After each one in sucession is disabled all by itself, and you see no improvement in right-click time delay, re-enable the last one and disable the next one in line until you *do* see an improvement. Then leave the last one, the one that's causing the delay, disabled. If the system doesn't screw up, leave it permanently disabled.
I fixed my particular right-click delay by disabling the below entry in the Shell Extension Viewer:
IEContextMenu Class [Yes] Context Menu Norton AntiVirusNAVShellExt Module 9.05.15 Norton AntiVirus Symantec Corporation No No No C:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton AntiVirus\NavShExt.dll {****A4D5-41EB-****-9616-CE1D4F6****} 4/1/2004 6:14:45 PM 4/1/2004 6:00:38 PM No
(The first [Yes] means it's disabled.)
Remember, do NOT disable any MICROSOFT designated items (under the viewer's COMPANY column); only the non-Microsoft items ONE AT A TIME.
If it works, then say a good prayer for the Irish, that they may continue in their brilliance.
